Get Involved - Student Affairs Divisional Committees

Are you looking for a way to get involved in a Student Affairs Divisional committee? Are you interested in planning programs that will contribute to your professional development, and the development of your colleagues? If so, the SA Professional Development Committee is the place for you! We're looking for new members from a variety of offices and experience levels.
Please contact Liz Walsh (walshek@miamioh.edu) with questions or to express your interest. This is a great way to meet people from across the Division, and to use your creativity to help all of us continue to grow in the field.

Elect Her Workshop

F-Word is looking for nominations to our inaugural Elect Her workshop. Elect Her is a half day workshop to train women to run for student government office and beyond. Students who are nominated will receive a personal invite to register. This program is open to students on all campuses (Oxford, Middletown, Hamilton, and VOA) and will take place on November 11, 2017.
Register by Wednesday, September 13: https://goo.gl/forms/OviLSqK4HIhYDjC83

Out of the Darkness Community Walk

Sunday, October 1, 2017 at 1:00 p.m.
Memorial Park Uptown
Registration is free
We will be walking through campus to raise awareness and show our support for suicide prevention efforts.  There are fundraising opportunities with all money going to the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention.  All are welcome to join us and walk - donations are not required to walk.  For more information, and to register as an individual walker or a team, check out asfp.org/OxfordOH.

Nominate a deserving colleague for one of OCPA's Fall Awards!
The nomination window will be open August 28-September 20.
The OCPA Awards are an opportunity to recognize an undergraduate or graduate student; few things compare to public recognition as a way to show someone how much you appreciate them.
Nomination is easy! Complete a short form and submit a brief nomination statement online. The deadline to submit a nomination is Wednesday, September 20
(Note: the sooner you submit your nomination the more time your nominee has to complete the process!) You will need to complete a nomination letter that will need to be submitted with the nominees other materials.                           To learn more about each award please click here.
To nominate someone please click here.
Awards will be presented at the annual Careers in Student Affairs Conference, October 22, 2016 at the University of Akron in Akron, OH.
Questions? Contact Kristen Rothfeld at ocpadropbox@gmail.com.
Individuals are often asked what they value, but rarely are they ever asked to truly define what those values mean to them. This workshop takes a closer look at personal and organizational core values, asking individuals to define their core values and to delve into their personal mission statement. If individuals are part of the same group, they will also look at their organizations mission statement and values.

Welcome Weekend and First 50 Days Events - Get the App!

Orientation and Transition Programs is excited to promote over 350 events during Welcome Weekend and the First 50 Days - from August 24 - October 15.  See the full schedule on our Orientation and Transition guide, part of the Miami University Events app (same one we use for summer orientation), or on our website at MiamiOH.edu/first50.  The schedule will soon be divided into event tracks for first-year, second year, transfer, and graduate students.
If you have an event to promote that is not yet on the schedule, input the details on our Welcome Weekend and First 50 event proposal form.  If you need to make changes to an existing event, please contact Evelyn Covington at covinged@miamioh.edu.

Student Affairs Intranet

Student Affairs will soon have a staff member Intranet, for internal communication and resource-sharing in Student Affairs. We are looking now for early adopters to help us populate the site with missing resources (you'll see lots of gaps currently!) and expand the current offerings.
New ideas? Missing resources? Etc? Email Jen O'Brien (obrienjc@miamioh.edu) or Tim Kresse (kressetj@miamioh.edu) to submit ideas.

Tech Tip of the Week - UPDATE!!!
From Jen O'Brien
TIP: Set Gmail as your browser's default email (instead of Outlook) in Chrome.
WHY: If you have ever tried to click on a link to someone’s email from any webpage, chances are you’ve had the Microsoft Outlook setup box show up and make you wait for it to load. And if you don’t use Outlook (as most of us do not), you’ve probably been annoyed. Lucky for all of us - there is a way out!
HOW?  Head to the Chrome menu in the top right corner of your browser and select Settings. Scroll to the bottom of the screen and select Show Advanced Settings. Click Content Settings and then scroll down to the Manage Handlers button. Select Gmail from the dropdown, click Done, and there you go!
UPDATE: If this didn't work for you, you probably need to make a quick update in your Gmail Browser settings. In Chrome, go to the tab with your gmail open. If you see overlapping diamonds, click on the diamonds and change the setting from "Deny" to "Allow" mail.google.com to open all email links. Click Done, then test it out! If it doesn't work, go into the Content Settings to Manage Handlers, per the last Tech Tip.
