Dear Commodore,
I am so glad to welcome you to Vanderbilt University!
As you prepare to join our community, I want to introduce you to Student Affairs at Vanderbilt. Our division’s mission, which is focused on the student experience, is to create vibrant, inclusive communities that foster a sense of belonging and wellbeing.
Student Affairs team members will be here to support you from the moment you arrive on campus. As you begin making a home in your residence hall, we hope you engage with your resident adviser and other residential staff, who will help you connect with your roommates and neighbors and build a community.
Once you have settled in and are getting into your academic routine, you will have the opportunity to attend the Student Involvement Fair and the Service Fair where you can learn about the over 475 student organizations we have on campus. The Student Affairs team members who support these organizations will help you find meaningful experiences and develop the leadership skills to make a difference in our community and beyond.
And inevitably, you will find yourself needing additional support while navigating life at Vanderbilt at one time or another, and the Student Affairs team will be here to support you then as well. Our Student Care Network provides a holistic network of health and wellness resources and offers services ranging from academic coaching to individual or group therapy.
We are here for you.
I hope you have a wonderful summer. I am excited to welcome you to campus very soon!
Sincerely,
G.L. Black
Vice Provost for Student Affairs and Dean of Students
