Revamped Employer-Assisted Housing Program offers more incentives, opportunities for UChicago employees to live in budding South Side communities
Lorice Pullins, a registered nurse at the medical center, was the first UChicago Medicine employee to purchase a home under the Employer-Assisted Housing Program since it was relaunched in October 2014.
Last fall, UChicago and UChicago Medicine revamped their joint Employer-Assisted Housing Program (EAHP) to improve incentives for staff and faculty to move into the nine communities surrounding campus. EAHP provides a forgivable loan for down payment and closing costs for home purchases. There is an added bonus and new rental assistance for employees moving into a focus area within the Woodlawn neighborhood. The program is part of a broader University strategy to invest in the mid-South Side. Since the October 2014 relaunch, 10 employees have taken advantage of the program, and the commercial and cultural renaissance happening around the UChicago campus.

In October, Atlantic Media recognized the University's Employer-Assisted Housing Program as an innovative model for community reinvestment, selecting it as one of 25 national finalists for the Renewal Awards
