Georgia Tech Packaging Research Center Collaboration with SKC Leads to
$600 Million Semiconductor Manufacturing Site in Georgia

On November 1, 2022, Absolics, Inc., a subsidiary of SKC Co., broke ground on a new semiconductor manufacturing facility. The facility is expected to create more than 400 jobs in Georgia.

JSNN Launches ICONS
The Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering and the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM) Soldier Center have created a one-of-a-kind joint collaborative laboratory titled Innovation Collaborative Laboratory for Nanotechnologies to Empower the Future Soldier (ICONS). The grand opening was held on November 21, 2022 at JSNN. The purpose of ICONS is to establish technologies that will protect the soldier through integrated science and engineering.

Upcoming XRD Workshop at IEN
January 5 and 6, 2023
The Materials Characterization Facility (MCF) at IEN is pleased to announce that in January, in collaboration with Rigaku, we will be hosting a workshop on X-ray diffraction. January 5th will feature seminars from researchers across the southeast including but not limited to Clemson, Emory, Florida State University, and JSNN. January 6th will feature hands on training and application of techniques and showing off the capabilities of the tools and the software.

JSNN Wins University Economic Development Association (UEDA)
Award of Excellence
The Joint School's Institute for Research Technologies (JSIRT) aims to attain national distinction as a science, engineering, and nanotechnology research and innovation hub for the Triad region of North Carolina, and it is constantly adding new instrumentation and expanding its network of collaborators and external users to support its mission. The JSIRT’s unabated growth and success in recent years, notwithstanding the COVID-19 pandemic, has recently been recognized by the University Economic Development Association (UEDA).

TechCrunch Disrupt 2022 Startup Battlefield Awardee
Minerva Lithium, a user of SENIC's JSNN Core Facilities, recently won the TechCrunch Disrupt 2022 Startup Battlefield Award. Minerva Lithium produces Nano Mosaic, a coordinated polymer framework that extracts critical materials from brine in just three days.

Instrumentation Spotlight:
Nikon X-Ray micro-CT Scanner
Micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) is an X- ray-based technology that allows objects to be imaged in three dimensions (3D) and at very high resolution (micron scale). JSNN houses a Nikon XT H 225 ST system with multiple transmission targets useful for a range of applications.

| SENIC's Education and Outreach
SENIC led a number of successful outreach events during the Fall of 2022 including: facility tours, research presentations, a Nanotechnology Day Celebration, NanoImpacts Conference 2022, an Undergraduate Research Symposium, and much more.
SENIC continues to offer “Intro to Nanotechnology” virtual workshops through IEN and "Rise to Nano" experiences through JSNN.

SENIC Catalyst Program
In support of its vision to strengthen and accelerate discovery in nanoscience and nanoengineering across the US, SENIC has established the SENIC Catalyst Program. This program will allow limited free access to the SENIC facilities to aid in research, obtain preliminary data, conduct proof of concept studies, or for educational purposes.
