AMPC Pre-Health Peer Mentor Program

Are you interested in Pre-Health mentoring? Do you want guidance connecting with research or clinical opportunities, courses and summer internships, your 4-year plan, or anything Pre-Health?

AMPC's Pre-Health Peer Mentor Program is a great resource open to all students to help you navigate your Pre-Health journey. The Program pairs you with a passionate upperclassman mentor who’s been in your shoes and knows exactly how to help you thrive. We match you with an experienced Pre-Health upperclassman with similar concentrations, and they will work with you throughout the year on all things Pre-Health. We keep things fun with game nights, socials, and workshops designed to boost your skills and your confidence. Join us and turn the big, scary world of college into a community that’s rooting for your success!

We are also looking for Pre-Health upperclassmen interested in being mentors!

Applications are now open for both mentees and mentors! 

Requirements for being matched include attending one GBM and an event or two events. 

We will have our Mentor mixer on September 30th at the USC 3rd floor terrace from 6:45-8:30 pm to allow mentees to meet our mentors.

Pre-Med Mentorship Program | APSA

The American Physician Scientists Association (APSA) is the largest national organization representing physician-scientist trainees, with over 2,000 members from more than 100 institutions across the United States and its territories. We are excited to invite mentors and prospective graduate and professional school applicants to participate in our Pre-Medical Mentorship Program. This is a program where current physician-scientist trainees serve as mentors throughout the academic year to pre-medical undergraduate/post-baccalaureate students interested in becoming physician-scientists. This is a valuable opportunity for pre-medical students to form a longitudinal one-on-one connection with a physician-scientist trainee and receive personalized advice/feedback towards achieving their career goals. All mentor-mentee pairs receive “monthly prompts” with discussion topics specific to the physician-scientist training path. Some past topics included MCAT study strategies, MD/DO-PhD interview-specific advice, and insight into a day in the life of a physician-scientist trainee. Mentees may sign up for free and do not need to be an APSA member.

Veterans Affairs (VA) Volunteer Opportunity

New stationed tech assistance desk at the Washington DC VA Medical Center, near the Transfer of Care Clinic, helping veterans set up and use tools like My HealtheVet, the VA app, and telehealth.

We're now recruiting a small team of student volunteers to staff the desk on a flexible schedule. It's a hands-on, patient-facing role that gives real clinical-adjacent experience, which I think could be a great fit for some of your pre-health students.

Commitment: Flexible hours; we are looking for volunteers who can commit to a regular weekly shift.
Type: Unpaid, clinical-adjacent experience providing patient-facing interaction.
Benefits: This is a great opportunity for pre-health students to gain direct experience working with veterans and navigating VA systems.

Part-Time & Full-Time Chiropractic Medical Assistant Needed

This clinic is looking for a motivated medical assistant who will handle medical assisting duties and administrative tasks. Our clinic is conveniently located in downtown Washington, DC directly off L'Enfant Plaza Metro Station. Part- Time includes 20-30 hours a week. Full-time must be able to commit at least 30-40 hours a week. Flexible work schedule, including weekdays until 7pm and Saturday 9-3pm.

Benefits:

Competitive salary of $30-35/hr depending on prior experience and work performance. After 30 days you will be considered for additional bonuses based on performance, and ability to receive raises rapidly every month depending on efficiency and work-load management. As you are able to multi-task and assume more responsibilities around the clinic, your salary will increase to compensate.

Work schedule is flexible with advanced notification of your schedule.

Clinical duties include preparing treatment rooms, setting up rehab therapies, scribing, and assisting doctor with tasks. Administrative duties include collecting payments, answering calls and emails, and insurance. All job duties and responsibilities will be taught on the job with a paid week of training and shadowing. The current staff as well as the doctor will on board and train you until you are comfortable completing job duties alone.

Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment

Must be energetic and respectful

Must have excellent attention to detail

Proficient in basic technological skills such as Gmail, Microsoft Word, social media, navigating online insurance verification portals, setting up devices

Must be proficient in basic math, spelling, and grammar

Reside in the DMV area and ability to commute easily (our clinic is located in downtown Washington DC directly off L’Enfant Plaza Metro Station and garage parking available)

Ability to speak Spanish is a plus, but not required.

We are a small private practice clinic in Ashburn, VA, looking to hire medical assistants who can start now, and are very interested in hiring pre-health students who are looking for direct clinical experience. No MA certification required. 

Specialty: Pediatric Ophthalmology & Adult Strabismus

Location: Ashburn, VA 

Responsibilities include:

Taking patient histories

Assisting with exams/medical procedures

Scribing for the physician

Front desk duties (answering the phone, scheduling appointments, verifying patient insurance, checking patients in/out, scheduling surgeries)

At least one-year prior experience as a medical assistant/receptionist would be preferred, but we welcome recent college graduates with plans to attend medical school, PA school, nursing school, OT/PT school, etc.
