Celebrating Juneteenth

We celebrate and commemorate Juneteenth – the emancipation of African Americans who had been enslaved in the United States. Learn more about the history of Juneteenth here.

At Habitat Orlando & Osceola, we are committed to increasing homeownership opportunities for Black individuals and families in Central Florida – and addressing the racial and systemic bias that has stymied access to homeownership for generations.

In honor of Juneteenth, we encourage you to celebrate, educate, advocate, and shop in ways that support Black communities in and around our community. Here is information on Orlando-area Juneteenth events, historic African American districts and venues, and Black-owned businesses:

Meet future homeowner Solangi

When this high school chorus teacher looked into homeownership, she found her salary was not enough to afford a home in the current housing market.

“As a single person who is a teacher, homeownership seemed impossible,” she said. “I thought that this was a dream I would never get to realize.”

Construction will start in November on her energy-efficient Habitat home with an affordable mortgage in Silver Pines Pointe.

BBX Capital

In celebration of the global Pay It Forward Day, BBX Capital partnered with Habitat for Humanity affiliates in Florida, Mississippi, and Canada to build homes, communities, and hope. In Orlando, we welcomed volunteers from Las Olas Confections and Altman Construction for this special Team Build to help families in need of safe and affordable housing build better lives for themselves and their children. Thank you for your generous donation and support!

Congrats, Blitz homeowners!

Last month, three of our six Builders Blitz homeowners closed on their homes that were built back in February! Congratulations to Daniel & Oriana, Wonda and Jessica. We're so excited see you and your families thrive in your safe and affordable home.

Dedicating Hope Commons

We were honored to be part of the ribbon-cutting event for Hope Commons in downtown Kissimmee on June 2. Congratulations to Rev. Mary Downey and the Hope Partnership team for officially opening the doors to their new facility, and thanks for including us as one of your nonprofit partners. We're looking forward to using our office space to expand our homeownership, mentoring, and home repair programs in Osceola County! Here are just a few of the photos from this amazing day.

Tanisha didn’t originally qualify for Habitat due to her debt and credit score, but she worked with one of our mentors to improve her finances, and she will soon purchase her new Habitat home!
We're excited to be able to help more Central Floridians become homebuyer ready as we work to become a HUD-certified housing counselor.

To celebrate, Habitat for Humanity has a goal to secure 100 planned gifts this month to help families in need of safe and affordable housing.
