Isaiah 55:6-7
Seek the Lord while he may be found;
    call on him while he is near.
Let the wicked forsake their ways
    and the unrighteous their thoughts.
Let them turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on them,
    and to our God, for he will freely pardon.

New International Version (NIV)
              Melanie and I will celebrate our thirty-fifth wedding anniversary in June.  Tomorrow, our kids Chase and Brooke will celebrate their first anniversary by going on a trip.  What is the difference between one year of marriage and thirty-five years of marriage?  I once heard the story of an older husband and wife, who were driving down the road, assessing the state of their marriage.  She said, “I remember when you and I used to sit so close together in the pickup, we were like one person driving the car”.  The husband answered, “I have not moved”.

                Isaiah reminds the people that in their relationship with God, God has not moved.  Four times he says, “Come back to God for life”.  God’s people do not need money to come back to God.  God longs to give them life if they will receive it.  “Seek the Lord while he may be found.  Call on him while he is near.”

                True, God is omnipresent.  But like the wife in the story, we may feel that God has distanced himself for us.  What changes is our awareness of God’s presence.  He invites us to seek him.  Will we?  Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.  Will we call on him while he is near.

                Wednesday night as I prepared to go and pray in Tallowood's prayer meeting, the Lord stirred in me as he has so many times.  He called me to pray and speak to him.  This time I did.  I was not disappointed.  Good news:  God says, “I will be found by you when you seek me with all your heart”.  God wants us to find him.  He is near right now.  Come to him.  Call on him.  Seek him.  You will find him when you do.
Pray with me:
Father, how we thank you for times in the past when you stirred our hearts.  Today we ask you to do it again.  Let us become more aware of your presence.  Let us experience the glory of your goodness.  We ask in Jesus’ name.  Amen.
This year our Every Day with Jesus readings will follow The Bible Project Read Scripture Plan.  Copies of this reading plan are available at Tallowood Baptist Church, or download
the app at readscripture.org.  Read through the Bible with us in 2019!
Joyfully,
Duane
