The CMU Portugal Conference will be dedicated to members of the CMU Portugal Program community. It will be a key moment to assess how the partnership has evolved and its impact across academia and industry in the past 20 years.

The first joint conference of Phase 4 of the CMU Portugal, MIT Portugal, and UT Austin Portugal Programs will bring together researchers, students, industry leaders, policymakers, and innovation stakeholders across the three communities. 

Applications for the 2027 CMU Portugal Mobility Initiatives - Visiting Faculty & Researchers and Visiting Students are open until November 15, 2026, for research visits from 2 weeks up to 4 months to Carnegie Mellon University in 2027, supported by the Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (FCT). 

CMU Portugal has open applications for up to 12 Dual Degree Ph.D. scholarships, supported by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT). Available for the 2027/2028 academic year, the funding supports research across cutting-edge fields in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).

On October 14th at 4:00 p.m. (Lisbon) / 11:00 a.m. (Pittsburgh), the CMU Portugal Program will host an Online Info Session to guide prospective candidates applying for the 2027/2028 academy call.

Designed for doctoral candidates and prospective supervisors, this session will explain the CMU Portugal scholarship application process and how to build a strong application.

Manuela Veloso, a CMU faculty member and long‑time CMU Portugal collaborator, has been awarded the 2026 Founders Medal, the university’s highest honor. The distinction recognizes alumni with outstanding professional achievements and sustained service to Carnegie Mellon.

José Manuel Mendonça, coordinator of the Portugal-U.S. strategic partnerships, and Pedro Oliveira, Dean of Nova SBE and a key collaborator of CMU Portugal, were featured in an episode of the Transatlantic Talks podcast to dive into the creation of the Portugal-U.S. partnerships (CMU Portugal, MIT Portugal, UT Austin Portugal Programs) and their impact on Portugal's internationalization. 

CMU Portugal hosted a welcome event in September for students currently in Pittsburgh. The group, which includes students across five CMU departments and two Portuguese universities, attended a lunch where staff shared campus information, semester highlights, and tips for living in the city. After lunch, they participated in a bridge‑building challenge.
