Job 1:1
In the land of Uz there lived a man whose name was Job. This man was blameless and upright; he feared God and shunned evil.
New International Version (NIV)
If you reduced your life-story to a legal-size sheet of paper, what tale would it tell?  You may remember when my friend Dr. Howard Batson came to preach holding a yellow notebook pad.  He carefully described the process he uses to capture the life-story of a person on a legal pad as he cares for their family in preparation for a funeral.  It was a helpful reminder that someone will tell our story someday.  What will they say?

Job’s story begins with a one verse description of him.  Job was a person who lived in Uz.  He was blameless, upright, feared God, shunned evil and possessed great wealth.  Notice that it began with a description of his soul.  Our net worth is not our identity.

Someone defined integrity as who you are when no one else is looking  So who are we?   When all of life caved in on Job, he was able to stand in the strength of his commitment to God.  We know for sure that adversity will come our way.  We will not choose which challenges we face.  But today, in God’s presence we can choose to find our identity in relationship with God.
Pray with me:
Gracious God, we are who we are on our knees before you.  Nothing less and nothing more.  Show us who we are and who we can become as your children.  Strengthen us today so that we may stand firm for you, come what may.  In Jesus’ name, we pray.  Amen.
This year our Every Day with Jesus readings will follow The Bible Project Read Scripture Plan.  Copies of this reading plan are available at Tallowood Baptist Church, or download
the app at readscripture.org.  Read through the Bible with us in 2019!
Joyfully,
