Isaiah 1:18
“Come now, let us settle the matter,”
    says the Lord.
“Though your sins are like scarlet,
    they shall be as white as snow;
though they are red as crimson,
    they shall be like wool."

New International Version (NIV)
                  Have you ever hauled hay?  It is an unforgettable experience.  Not in a good way.  I figured out that I am allergic to hay.  Not to work, but to hay.  My friend Calvin Miller once told about how dirty one becomes while hauling hay.  He titled his sermon, “I wanna get washed.”  Do you know that feeling? Have you ever sinned?  It is an unforgettable experience.  Not in a good way.  One foray into sin reveals that we were made for more.  How will it happen?

                The prophet Isaiah knew that the people of his day needed to get washed from their sins.  After detailing their rebellion against their heavenly Father, he calls them to repentance and to reason.  Listen to God’s invitation.  “Come . . .” implies that we move toward God.  “Let us reason,” means God is ready to talk to us and to listen.”  “Though your sins are as scarlet,” tells us we have not gone beyond the love of God.  Listen to the promise:  You will be white as snow . . .  We want to get washed.  We need to get washed.  Even more than we want to be clean, our God wants to make us clean.  He purchased our forgiveness at the high price of his own blood on the cross.  Will we receive it?  Today?

 Pray with me:
Father, we want to be washed.  Thank you for providing the possibility of cleansing.  As you wash away the stains  of our sin, change our hearts we pray so that we no longer want to sin against you.  Give us the gift of repentance.  When you give it, help us to receive it, until to “turn, turn will be our delight, ‘til by turning, turning we come around right.”  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
  This year we focus our Every Day with Jesus readings on Jesus’ story.  With references to Tallowood's Read Through the Bible in 2018 daily reading plan, let's focus our undivided attention on Jesus and follow where he lead. He will not fail. Neither will we!

Joyfully,
