Digital Storytelling

In March of 2022, students from the University of Calgary Youth Digital Storytelling Project partnered with six Astonished! Student Researchers to create short videos about their current lives and what they are facing. March 2022 was the beginning of the third year of the COVID 19 pandemic. The Digital Storytelling Project was a great opportunity for the A! Student Researchers to reflect on their lives and express how it was for each of them. They learned story telling approaches, video production and editing skills, and had a wonderful time getting to know the team from the U of C. Thank you to the U of C Youth Digital Storytelling Project. Thank you to A! Student Researchers Paige Racette, Rebekah Lindenbach, Kennen Dorgan, Kelsey Culbert, Cassandra Isaac, and Landon Sawden for sharing their digital stories with us. Bunny Therapy

Human beings depend critically on what scientists refer to as “social” or “affective” touch. If we can’t interact by touching, we are missing out on something essential for humans. Touch facilitates social connections in part by tapping into the brain’s emotional pathways. The skin has been described as a “social organ,” and has receptor cells that tell the brain about pleasurable social touch.’ John Hopkins Medicine

The A! Student Researchers had a unique touch experience this month when Tania Wolk visited the Astonished! Teaching and Learning Centre with baby bunnies; Salt, Pepper, and Nutmeg.  Just imagine the softness of the touch of baby bunnies, and they seemed pretty good at bunny kisses too. Thank you to Tania Wolk, and Salt, Pepper, and Nutmeg for helping elevate our endorphins

Truth and Reconciliation

On April 7, 2022 Astonished! hosted the first session of a six-part Truth and Reconciliation Workshop Series. Special thanks to Elder Kokum, Brenda Dubois, for sharing her wisdom, teachings, and kindness with Astonished! We are looking forward to learning more at the next workshops that will take place over the next few months and into September. Click here for event dates....

The purpose of this series is to provide a learning opportunity to better understand the history of colonialism in Canada, the impact and harm it brought to Indigenous Peoples of this land which is now Canada, also known as Turtle Island, and to the Treaty Relationship between settlers and First People. These workshops will also delve into the current need to participate in the work of truth and reconciliation and to bring healing.

Thank you to the Community Initiative Fund for support for this series

A! Social Club

The Astonished! April Social Club event, the A! Olympics was an opportunity to compete in an obstacle course and be crowned A! Olympic Champion. We had the whole gymnasium to ourselves, and although we were small in size, we had a chilled and great evening.

Thank-you to the City of Regina | Municipal Government which partially funds our Social Club events through the Social Development Grant! Check out our Events page for upcoming Social Club plans.
