4-H Summer Intern Update

Hello 4-H Families!
I’m sad to say that this was my last week as the 4-H Summer Intern. I’ve had an amazing experience and I’m very grateful for this opportunity. This summer has gone by so quickly but I’ve been very busy planning all the summer activities that happened!
I will give a small overview of what I did this summer:
To kick start the full summer of camps, the first one was foodie camp! Foodie camp was 3 days of all things cooking and baking! Youth made a wide variety of foods from desserts, main courses, and healthy snacks!
The second camp was STEM Camp! STEM Camp was 3 days of all things Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math! A few things the youth did was explore volcanoes, build lava lamps, did STEM challenges, and so much more!
The third 3 day long camp was Art Camp! Art Camp had 3 different themed days that were Art-Rageous 2-D, Super Sculptures 3-D, and Creative Cultural Arts! Youth did  things such as canvas paintings, created clay pots, and made dream catchers!
The last two day camps were Cardboard Camp and LEGO Camp. During Cardboard Camp youth created all sorts of zoo animals like horses and penguins. Youth also built vehicles to transport the animals! LEGO Camp was a small glimpse into what youth do during the year at LEGO Club. At LEGO Camp youth did build challenges, build cars, boats, and so much more!
All throughout the summer we had 3 different themed Cloverbud Day Camps for those youth in grades Kindergarten through 2nd. The first theme was Buzz, Flutter, Crawl where the camp focused on all things bugs! The second day camp was STEM where youth did lots of STEM activities. The third and final Cloverbud Day Camp was Teddy Bear Adventures where youth brought in their favorite stuffed animal and did activities with them all throughout the day!
I planned and ran all of those day camps and they were so much fun! A few other things I did this summer include writing press releases for the day camps and going to National Night Out! At National Night Out, we had a booth to promote 4-H and I made buttons with the kids! There were a lot of families who were interested in joining LEGO Club and 4-H! I wrote out postcards to them and sent them in the mail with more information about 4-H!
Overall, I had an amazing summer and thank you all so much for this wonderful opportunity! I hope to be back next summer!
Sincerely,
Makayla Stommel

Last week, August 5th- 7th, was 3 fun-filled days of Art Camp! Each day of Art Camp had a different theme and they were Art- Rageous 2-D, Super Sculptures 3-D, and Creative Cultural Arts!

The first day of camp was Art-Rageous 2-D. The youth started off the day with some name games and making their very own sketchbooks. Then they did sun prints and printmaking. The next activity was canvas painting where youth used acrylic paint on canvas and created their design. After lunch, the youth did perler beads, oil pastels, and chalk pastels. The youth finished up the day with a snack.

The second day of camp was Super Sculptures which was all things 3-D! The youth started the day with a mini activity followed by sculpting clay pots! Next, we had a guest speaker, 4-H youth leader Hannah, who came in and demonstrated how to make pipe cleaner flowers. Youth learned how to make a rose and a tulip. The youth then had lunch and after lunch, the youth created CD animals followed by 3-D paper sculptures. The youth then did soap carving by creating their designs. The final 3-D activity of the day was painting pinecones to create a flower bouquet.

The final day of camp was Creative Cultural Arts, where youth created different crafts and projects from different cultures. The youth started the day with aboriginal dot painting which is popular in Australia. The youth then made their very own pinatas out of cereal boxes! After pinata making was lunch, and then braided bracelet making along with lanyard making. Youth then made shoe moccasins where they put designs on the shoes that best described them. The final activity of the day was dreamcatcher making.

All the days were successful and we can’t wait until next year! Check the Fond du Lac County 4-H Facebook page for pictures!
