Steps to Prevent the Spread of Respiratory Illnesses
With respiratory illnesses—including COVID—on the rise in New York City, remember these important steps you can take to combat their spread.
Get Boosted
If you’re eligible for an additional COVID booster, get it. The updated boosters are specifically designed to protect you against the omicron subvariants that account for nearly all recent infections in NYC. Find a vaccination site near you.
Get a Flu Shot
Vaccination is the best way to protect against the flu. It will help decrease the risk of you and your family getting sick and needing flu-related medical care. And you can receive the flu vaccine at the same time as the COVID-19 vaccine. Find a vaccination site near you.
Masks Are Always Welcome
NYU no longer requires masks, but with significant spikes in reports of respiratory illness and hospitalizations, the NYC Health Department is recommending masking indoors and in crowded outdoor settings. NYU is commited to fostering an atmosphere where masks are always welcomed and those who choose to wear masks feel comfortable and supported in their decision.
Stay Home When You're Sick
If you have symptoms of a cold, COVID-19 or the flu, don’t come into class and don’t come into work. When you’re experiencing the symptoms, you’re more likely to be infectious. If you test positive for COVID-19, complete the COVID-19 Reporting Form for general guidance.
