Fur, Fin, Feather: Teaching Show

Youth are invited to participate in our upcoming Fur, Fin, Feather: Teaching Show, slated for Saturday, April 30 at the Barney Center in Sparta, WI. This show is unique in the aspect that it focuses on teaching and learning. For rabbits and poultry, there will be an all-breed show and showmanship competition. For rabbits, there will also be a breed judging class/giving reasons. The judges for these shows will slow down classes and work with youth to give them advice and teach them more about their animals/showmanship skills and how to improve them.

In addition, there will also be a small pet and cat show (no dogs or livestock). This is an opportunity for youth to present their small pets to a judge, answer their questions about their care, management, and relationship with their animal and receive a participation certificate/award.

Finally, there will be a photography and poster show, along with an educational poster session, and an opportunity to complete a service project (making cat toys to be donated to local shelters). There is so much to do at the Teaching Show! It is open to Cloverbud-13th grade; however, Cloverbuds will be under some restrictions. For applications and a full set of rules/instructions, please visit the show bill found here: https://vernon.extension.wisc.edu/files/2022/01/Fur-Fin-Feather-Show-Bill.pdf.

The online entry form can be found here: https://forms.gle/w291Udd3PC4fsCiz8.

Finally, there will be some virtual pre-teaching sessions on rabbit and poultry showmanship for youth that are beginning or would like a refresher. Families can register for those sessions on 4HOnline. Rabbit Showmanship is slated for February 22 and poultry showmanship is on March 15, both at 7:00 p.m.

The Fur, Fin, and Feather: Teaching Show is a four-county effort: La Crosse, Monroe, Richland, and Vernon.
