Melting Pots and Salad Bowls: Celebrating our Differences
by Rev. Christina Leone-Tracy

Have you ever wondered where the term "Melting Pot" came from, to describe our society here in the United States? In the spirit of 4th of July, and with all that has been happening with our nation's immigration policies, come learn why we are in need of a better, more healing metaphor to celebrate our differences.
Justice Action Ministries
From the Shared Sanctuary Ministry Committee
This coming Saturday, June 30, across the nation, people will protest Trump’s criminalization of immigrants. The administration's violent and discriminatory rhetoric, revoking DACA, imposing an unconstitutional travel ban on Muslims, and separating immigrant families at our borders and imprisoning these human beings in cages, with no plans of reunification are human rights abuses that must be stopped. We must not allow it to continue. On June 30, join members of our community in protest in Appleton at Houdini Plaza from 1:00-3:00 pm to tell Trump and his administration we are in solidarity with immigrants in our community and across our country, and we overwhelmingly oppose his fascist policies. Please join us and wear white.

Mango PIE Sponsorship Opportunity
Lady Mae Estenarez is the eldest daughter of Lady Lou and Danny Boy Estenarez. She was born in 2009 and is currently in 4th grade.  She has  twin younger brothers, Jay -En and Jay -Em, who are 2 years old.  Her favorite subject is math and she loves to play jackstone at home.  When she has no classes, she also loves to draw and play with her friends.
The Mango PIE (Partners in Education) program connects a family, individual or group with a student of our partner church in Banaybanay.  A commitment is made to sponsor the student through the level of education they are in at the time (elementary, high school, or college).  The stipend for elementary students is $100/school year, which helps with the cost of books, uniforms, supplies, and activity fees.  The sponsor is expected to communicate with the student twice during the year.  We send letters or cards in late fall and early spring, with options to send messages or photos via email instead or at other times.  Report cards and other information concerning the students are distributed to sponsors as received from Banaybanay.  This program helps to build partnership through personal connection, cultural exchange, and advancement of opportunity for the Banaybanay community. There is additional information in the brochures on the shelf outside the Fellowship Hall.
Fiscal Year End Reminder: The Fellowship’s 2017-2018 fiscal year is coming to an end on June 30, 2018. All contribution payments received in the office or postmarked June 30th will be applied in the 2017-2018 fiscal year, unless otherwise indicated in the memo field as a prepayment towards your 2018-2019 annual pledge. All payments received after June 30th, and marked as 2017-2018 pledge will be applied as completion of the 2017-2018 pledge in the next fiscal year. Any unmarked payments will be applied to the year in which they are received, so please be specific as possible when sending in your pledge payments.
