May 5, 2023
Greetings:
I write this, ostensibly filled with congratulations and recognition of so much hard work over the past academic year, at the same time as composing a letter of invitation for our upcoming season brochure to do it all over again next year! It’s been a remarkable year of re-grouping, coming back together fully in person and face to face, accommodating different challenges in reaction to our post-pandemic survival. It’s a true pleasure to be able to note both the cycles that will continue (spring, summer vacation followed by school in the fall) as well as those that will be different, for our graduates and retirees. Let’s take this transitional moment, of graduating, of moving, of taking a breath before starting the next chapter, to appreciate our community in the DFPA, and be thankful for one another.
Best wishes for an excellent summer!

Magis Faculty Leadership Program
Dr. Badia Ahad, VP for Faculty Affairs in the Office of the Provost has announced that the new deadline for FDRC review (Summer Stipend and Paid Research Leave of Absence applications) is September 8th. As this new deadline may necessitate timeline changes in the review process within the College of Arts and Sciences, Faculty Affairs is happy to work with academic units to accommodate this change. She provides a sample timeline below:
- Faculty Affairs will solicit names of faculty who intend to apply and prepare cases in Interfolio (early May-July)
- Faculty to complete summer stipend/research leave application over the summer (June-July)
- School/Department committee review of applications - if applicable (mid-August)
- Dean review of application (late August/early September)
More information will be forthcoming regarding the specific dates for submission, once the timeline has been determined by CAS.

Study Abroad Resources
Loyola’s next deadline for faculty-led Study Abroad proposals is June 15th (extended from June 1st) and applications will open in the GoGlobal portal on May 1st. We are also pleased to announce that the university will be moving from a singular deadline for accepting program proposals to a bi-annual deadline model on November 1st (J-Term & Spring Break programs) and June 1st (Summer programs). Loyola will accept early proposals for the next AY on either cycle. This change was implemented to provide faculty more time to develop programs and offer a larger recruitment window to meet enrollment minimums.

Enterprise Learning Hub
We'd like to encourage all Faculty and Staff, as part of your pre-semester preparation, to check in at the Enterprise Learning Hub, where lives access to any of the required online training sessions about which we often receive reminders or announcements. We ask you to keep up with those required sessions, and complete them in timely fashion so we don’t have to track you down (knowing that the ultimate penalty for non-compliance is removal from email and university systems). I hope we will be able to continue to benefit from the information we get from these relatively painless obligations.
