Pre-Health Advising Updates |
Hello again, future health professionals,
Over the past week, Pre-Health Advising has met with quite a few students who have had research opportunities ended or withdrawn due to the federal cuts to NIH research. (If you were not aware, check out this US News and World Report article.) While we're heartened to see that GW has joined the lawsuit opposing this policy, we understand that the policy can have negative consequences and uncertainty in the near term. Continue to look for academic and private research opportunities near you, and occupy yourself with valuable clinical and volunteer work as well. Remember that GW Career Services aids GW students and recent alumni. The GW Center for Undergraduate Fellowships and Resources can offer valuable guidance as well. Our office is also available to GW students and alumni (with no time limit for alumni). Watch this space, we will keep posting opportunities here. We're continually impressed by your perseverance and resourcefulness. Keep doing good in the world; our future health system needs you!
Best,
Pre-Health Advising

The Legacy Project
The Legacy Project, Inc., or TLP, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that connects students with older adults in their local communities to (1) foster friendships and (2) preserve the older adults' life histories through a published book, achieving a lasting legacy.
We recently launched a national partnership with Maplewood Senior Living and are excited to expand our program to their new location, Inspir Embassy Row. To support this initiative, we are looking to recruit students from schools in the D.C. area to start a TLP chapter and begin programming next fall. Starting a TLP chapter offers students leadership opportunities, book authorship, and the chance to form meaningful intergenerational connections. It is an especially valuable opportunity for pre-health students interested in aging. Aside from developing many of the traits and skills needed for a healthcare career, starting a TLP chapter will allow George Washington students to make a meaningful and measurable impact in their community.
Interested students can reach out directly to TLP at our email, exec@thelegacyproj.org.
Students can also read more on our website, or watch this video to learn more about our process. If you want to look at our prior work from other schools, here are links to some of our published books: Timeless Tales, Sundaes and Sundays, and Connecting the Pieces of Our Lives.

Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) Summer Camp
The Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) has recently announced the dates and locations for our 2025 Summer Camp program and we are eager to spread the word to students at The George Washington University who may be interested in volunteering as counselors.
MDA Summer Camp offers kids ages 8-17 who are diagnosed with neuromuscular disease the freedom to be kids with others who are just like them during a life-changing week of fun and friendship — all at no cost to their families.
MDA relies on the support of volunteer counselors to support campers as they participate in adaptive camp experiences, games, dances, mealtime and more. In addition to bringing joy to campers, this fantastic opportunity allows students to gain hands-on experience in education, recreation, family social sciences and medical professions, while earning them over 140 volunteer hours.
