A Beautiful Collaboration
“Every few years since the early 1990s, I have packed up my diamond and stone cutting wheels and left my studio in Göttingen, Germany, to spend a few weeks carving select pieces of Josh’s glass. In the beginning I engraved patterns into the clear glass portion of his incalmo Saturns. More recently, since he started to develop and melt his Corona Glass with its colourful swirling patterns, we immediately saw the potential for deep surface treatment, especially on the exterior of thick-walled vases. My carving reveals the layers of colours within the Corona Glass, and I can adjust my cutting depending on what I find. Like mining for gems, sometimes I hit a vein of bright pink or turquoise. It’s wonderful!” -- Gabriele Küstner, Glass Artist, Göttingen, Germany
