February 3, 2016
The Confirmation Class of 2016, along with their families and mentors, lingered at Temple Beth Israel after Sabbath Worship last Friday evening.  The Rabbi took the time to unroll one of their beautiful scrolls, to explain the parts of the service with which we were unfamiliar, and to answer all the confirmands' questions - and as you can imagine, they had quite a few!  We found a lot of common ground, and we all left with a greater understanding, respect, and appreciation for both the Jewish faith and our own.
Tonight's menu: Red beans and rice, garlic bread, salad, fruit and birthday cake to celebrate all of our February birthdays!  Kids Option:  Pizza  5:30 pm for dinner, programs for all ages at 6:15 pm.
Tonight, during "Everybody has a Story", our featured member is
Ronnie Musgrove  ♦

The Discipleship Group and The 7 Experiment for women continue.  Jr/Sr High Youth meet in small groups.  4th-6th graders enjoy Wonderful Wednesdays with Drew Pruett.  Children in K-3rd grade will begin to rehearse to sing in church on February 28th along with Playing through the Parables of Jesus.  Tiny Tones meet for musical play and fun.
All men are invited to join us at 7:15 am tomorrow morning (Thursday) at Panera Bread for our weekly men's group.  This week, Harry Gilmer will be there to lead our discussion; thanks, Harry!
Then, be sure to set your alarm clocks a little earlier this Sunday morning.  (February 7th.) We will meet at 7:30 am in The Media Center for our monthly breakfast program.  We will be finalizing plans for the first PHUMC Men's Retreat(February 20th-21st.)  In addition, Ronnie Musgrove will have a word to share with us.  See you Sunday morning!
We love our father-son usher teams, but, we would love some mother-daughter teams, too! This ministry is open to all men, women, and youth over 16 years old.
The ushers at PHUMC fill a more important role than simply facilitating offering collection and communion: they prepare people for a positive worship experience by a genuine greeting, assisting with seating, being alert to special needs of members and guests, and safeguarding a distraction-free environment. Does this sound like a ministry you could grow into?  Please contact Kevin McDonald or Cari Brown to see how you can become involved.
Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper
Join us at 5:30 pm next Tuesday, February 9th for extra-large helpings of fun, pancakes, and laughter!  We need to feel the bond and blessings of community on the eve of Lent.
Men:  plan to come a little early and bring a griddle; we need your help to expertly flip those pancakes!  Thanks!
Ash Wednesday is February 10, 2016
This year, plan to participate in one of our
Ash Wednesday Services.

We provide one service at 7:00 am before you head off to work or school; then another at 6:00 pm to close the day.  Either way, this service of Word, repentance and ashes will mark the beginning of the season for all of us.  it's a way of walking together through the threshold of this special time.
Come, join us to prepare your heart and mind for the Easter season.
Our confirmands will spend this weekend in retreat, with God's love at the center of their focus!  They are planning a mission project to complete together.  February's Communion Offering will be their seed money.  Join us this Sunday to hear what they've decided to do!
