It always seems so trite to say, "We couldn't have done it without you!" But as we reflect back on 2019, what else can we say? The low population in Alpine County is a recurring talking point for the people who live, work, and play here. This fact makes our volunteer numbers all the more astounding. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to everyone who helped, supported, and lent us good cheer over the past year.
Here are some of the highlights:
- River Monitoring Team — 16 trained and intrepid volunteers covering eight sites on four sampling events
- Earth Day at Grover Hot Springs State Park — 68 volunteers attacking weeds, tidying the campground, and picking up trash
- July's Weed Warriors at Grover and Hung-A-Lel-Ti — a dozen volunteers at each workday
- Markleeville Creek Day — 56 volunteers spread over five sites planting willows, pulling invasive weeds, fixing a brush box, picking up trash, and sprucing up picnic tables
The new year will be a busy one as we again gear up for these events, as well as for construction of the
latest phase of restoration work in Hope Valley, a second year of harmful algal bloom monitoring, and completion of interpretive signs for Grover. We look forward to doing all this, and more, with you in 2020!
