FROM THE DESK OF DR. BLOOMFIELD:

Warm Holiday Wishes

Every day we have the great honor of working with your children. We study, learn, laugh, and play alongside one another. We share our lives together. Each day, we feel grateful for the opportunity you have given us to do so.
From our family to yours, enjoy a wonderful holiday and a restful break.

Online Lunch Ordering

Online lunch ordering for the week that we return from our winter break (January 2-6) is available and will remain online through December 21.

Mount Snow Ski Trip December 20 - Please Confirm by December 16

Adults are welcome. Tickets are $35 for students and $37 for adults. Please contact John Schatz by Friday, December 16 if you are interested. We need snow and a minimum of 6 skiers to make this trip happen.

WINTER SPORTS REPORT

The Girls' Basketball team kicked off their season with a thrilling game against Eagle Hill on Wednesday. With 3 minutes left to play, the Aardvarks came back from being down 10 points to nearly even the score, but they came up short, losing 17-15. The entire team contributed to a great game. Eliza Bigelow had four points and eleven rebounds, while Sylvie Mauri had 5 points, including an exciting three-pointer in the final minute. Elaina Gibbs-Buursma, Macy Kasbo, and Ruby Chase also scored, while Christy Kasbo, Ruby Rothenberg, and Adeena Bromberg Seltzer had several steals and rebounds on the defensive end.

Recreational skiing will begin on Monday, January 2.

COLLEGE MEETING FOR JUNIOR CLASS PARENTS
DECEMBER 19, 6 PM

College Counselor Neale Gay will hold an initial meeting with parents of juniors in Grinnell Hall on Monday, December 19, at 6:00 PM. Specific students will not be discussed at this meeting, but rather he will offer a general overview of the college process. He will be traveling a bit during winter break and is not available after December 19 and before January 2.

ACTIVITIES AND UPDATES FROM

THE ACADEMY PARENTS COUNCIL (APC)

Skating Party - December 22

Please join us on Wednesday, December 22 from 2-4 at the Collins-Moylan Rink in Greenfield. The cost is $5 to skate, $5 to rent skates. More information is available here:
There was also a lot of interest in skating on lakes when they freeze, and pickup hockey -- so if you know of a lake and are thinking of going over the winter, please consider sending out an email or an APC Facebook Page note to invite others!

THE ACADEMY GIVES BACK

This year we collected over 60 warm winter coats which were donated to the Franklin Area Survival Center in Turners Falls.
Our Mitten Tree was decorated with an abundance of winter accessories this year including a large number of hand knit items. These will be donated to the Recorder's Warm the Children drive.
Thanks to our Community Service Council for organizing these projects and to our families for their generous participation.

Community Supper

Academy students and staff volunteered at a Community Supper last Friday night at The Trinity Church in Shelburne Falls. The team called The Night Owls of Shivering Heights aka Ben Squared served (and entertained) 49 community members.

POLYGLOT 2016!

Today we celebrated Polyglot! Secret Santas made good work of hiding clues and gifts, the Class of 2017 organized various activities, Dr. Bloomfield read Christmas, A Story by Eleanor Roosevelt and we feasted on a family style dinner (with a full "alums and honored guests" table) with ingredients provided by Academy students and families - and expertly prepared by our own Chef Langston. After the meal, we sang - in inimitable Academy style - the classic Twelve Days of Christmas. Seniors in French IV and V classes presented an original play based on Scooby Doo characters, "The Grinch Stole Polyglot," and seniors in Spanish IV and V presented their work based on "Genesis" with cameo appearances by various meme heroes. Wrapping up a day of celebration, we sang all of the traditional songs of Polyglot while anonymous elves hid candy in students' shoes.

Thanks too, to their dedicated instructors for inspiring and teaching them and in turn, inspiring the rest of us!
