A Few Good Cameras
The Academy's photography program is in search of manual single lens-reflex film cameras in order to supplement our collection. Although we have a preference for Pentax or Nikon cameras, any donation would certainly be considered, so long as the equipment is in good working order.  Please contact Nora Bates Zale if you have a camera to donate.
Open Mic Night
October 16
6:00-8:00 PM
We will be holding an Open Mic on campus on Friday, October 16 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.  Students are encouraged to sign up online for this event, and may include friends from other schools in their acts. Sign-ups must be submitted before the end of school today, October 9. Families are welcome to attend.  Please send any questions or concerns to Emily Nitzsche.
Cornucopia Auction Invitation
Childcare at the
Cornucopia Auction and Social
Want to attend the Cornucopia Auction and Social to mingle with fellow parents and your partner but don't have a babysitter? We are pleased to announce that this year, children (6 and older) are welcome to take part in an auction night hangout with juniors and sophomores in Grinnell Hall. Kids will see a movie, do a craft project, and eat pizza. Childcare will cost $10 per child, and can be registered for when you buy your tickets online.
From the Office of
the Academic Dean:
Sophomores and juniors will be taking the PSAT on the morning of October 14. They should get a good night's sleep the night before and remember to bring their calculators to school.
STUDY ABROAD PROGRAM
We have listened to parents’ interest in student travel opportunities abroad, and this year we are excited to offer an incredible experience for our students of French during spring break in March. We’ll fly to Paris from Boston, and then take the TGV to Montpellier, a vibrant university town a few minutes from the Mediterranean by tram. We’ll stay with host families for a week, take two hours of instruction for four days at the Institut Européen de Français and take daily excursions to iconic sites such as the Pont du Gard and the Roman arena in Nîmes. After Montpellier, we return to Paris for a cultural tour of such sites as the Louvre, l’Arc de Triomphe, the Eiffel Tower, le Musée d’Orsay, the Catacombs, etc. Check out this  flyer. Because this is not an exchange, the all-inclusive price (except spending money and our return home from Boston) is $2,700, which may be less if we get better prices for flights and train tickets, but time is of the essence so the first deposit deadline is November 2.  Interested parents are invited to contact Mme Mauri or Mme Valdez for further information.

Cornucopia Auction & Social
Saturday, November 7
5:00 PM
.

The Auction Committee is busy following up on leads and working to get a beautiful array of items for the Cornucopia Auction on November 7. Please continue to get your items in as soon as possible. We thought it might be fun this year to highlight one or two items each week in the Bulletin.
We are so excited that Tony Derricotte (P ’16) has donated a Burgundy Wine Barrel chair from his Greenfield-based business, Wood and Barrel. Tony’s stunning chairs were the topic of a spread in the Greenfield Recorder on September 4, "Vintage Idea for New Business; Greenfield Craftsman Builds New Venture with Aged Wine Casks".
Home Stretch for Auction Donations and Refreshments!
The Auction Planning Team is pleased to report that we have received almost 50% of the items we seek- beautiful pottery and glass, Red Sox and Celtics tickets, vacation rentals, restaurant gift certificates and more! Thank you to those people who have donated or reached out to businesses for donations. If you have not donated, please help us reach our goal of 200 items and submit your online donation form by October 27.
The Food Committee is still looking for Parents who are  willing to make a batch of small “one bite wonders” of savories or sweets? We serve delicious food at the auction, and your contributions are welcome. Please contact Ann Hallenbeck, Food Committee Coordinator, by October 31,for details.
Might you take a shift in the kitchen during the event or with clean up at the end? We still need help to run the event. Contact Phoebe Walker with your interest or for questions about what's needed.
