How to Identify and Avoid Internet Scams During COVID-19

Internet hackers and scammers have found new life during COVID-19. The Pandemic has left Realtors® and consumers vulnerable to scams involving COVID-19 relief and general lack of diligence as a result of quarantine fatigue. This Inman News article, provides valuable information on what to look for and how to protect yourself. Diligence is critical, now more than ever.
This article is brought to you by Inman News. Realtor® members are provided FREE access to Inman Select as long as they maintain active membership in both Suburban West and Bright MLS. If you have not activated your free Inman account, please email SWRA Tech Specialist, John Barbone to request your log-in information.

More Details on the Virtual Membership Meeting, Merger Vote

As mentioned in earlier communications, the vote on the motion for the Suburban West Realtors® Association and Montgomery County Association of Realtors® to merge into the new organization, Tri-County Suburban Realtors®, will take place on June 15th. Accompanying the vote will be a Virtual Membership Meeting that morning. Official Notice of both the meeting and vote will be sent to all Realtor® members of Suburban West on May 28th including details on how to register for the meeting. If you have any questions, please contact Anne Marie Matteo.

New Customizable Flyer Focuses on Working in Real Estate During a Pandemic

Buying, selling or renting real estate during a Pandemic requires care and caution. To avoid the spread of COVID-19, activities should be conducted remotely whenever possible. In those instances where in-person activity cannot be avoided and where permitted by state law, the Association created a customizable flyer to highlight these recommendations that are derived from the CDC and Pennsylvania’s Guidance for Businesses Permitted to Operate During the COVID-19 Pandemic.
To request customization services of this new flyer (or any other flyer in our customizable flyer library), please email Kristin Tornetta your contact information, attachment of your headshot and an attachment of your company logo. Please note that due to advertising guidelines and space restrictions, these flyers can not be customized for teams, but are intended for individual Realtor® members.

Reminder: Virtual Continuing Education and Training Seminars Available

While Suburban West looks forward to offering in-person classes and training sometime soon, the organization continues to offer a variety of online continuing education and webinar training opportunities.
In addition to our continued partnership with OnCourse Learning for traditional online continuing education classes, the Association of Realtors® School will now be offering live-stream classes for PA MCE beginning in June. Featuring an instructor, students can connect live to these 3.5-hour classes and earn continuing education credit towards PA 18-20 license renewal.
The organization is also continuing to offer FREE virtual training opportunities for members. We had a robust schedule of offerings in May and will continue to offer a variety of topics in June and beyond as necessary. And remember to check out all the recent webinar trainings we had in May on the Webinar Series Archive page.

Gov. Order Omits Municipal Inspection Language

Gov. Wolf's executive order reopening real estate activities throughout the state achieved many of the goals Realtors® and legislators had sought in House Bill 2412, which the governor vetoed. One significant difference, though, was language in the Bill that eliminated municipalities' abilities to conduct use and occupancy inspections during the pandemic. That provision was not included in the governor's order, meaning Realtors® are still required to obtain resale certificates in municipalities that require U&O inspections before property transfers.
Since many municipal governments are still partially closed due to the coronavirus outbreak, Realtors® should keep in mind…read more here.
