Local writer, Shana Thornton Ripe for the Pickin' Book Launch Saturday, March 5th 1-3pm, Journey's Eye StudioShana Thornton is a writer, publisher, and Community School of the Arts instructor. She is the author of four works of fiction, Ripe for the Pickin' (2022), The Adventures to Pawnassus (2019), Poke Sallet Queen and the Family Medicine Wheel (2015) and Multiple Exposure (2012), and co-author of Seasons of Balance: On Creativity and Mindfulness (2016). Shana has written a historical stage play, countless magazine and newspaper articles, blogs, and interviews with artists, musicians, authors, and activists. She has written collaborative work for museum and art exhibitions. Shana enjoys writing as well as working with authors. In 2012, she opened Thorncraft Publishing, an independent publisher of literature, novels and creative nonfiction by individual authors, as well as the BreatheYourOMBalance® yoga book series.
Shana believes in using the written word to become involved in the community where she lives. She is the Founder of the Clarksville Montgomery County African American Legacy Trail (2019), a free community publication in print and online. She’s the President of the Friends of Dunbar Cave, Inc. and a member of Mt. Olive Cemetery Historical Preservation Society

CSA Workshop: Painting the Still Life (ages 15 through Adult)

Times: 1:00pm - 5:00pm
Location: Art + Design Building, Room 102
Instructor: Astyr Minic
Learn to paint a still life from set-up to completion. Understand the hue, value, and intensity of a color, how to create light and shadow using color, and discover new methods of mixing color. We will create the painting in stages, working from general to specific. You will leave with a better understanding of how to use color, knowledge of how to build a painting, and a finished product! We will use acrylic paint and supplies will be provided. No prior knowledge is required, all levels welcome.

Astyr Minic earned her BFA in drawing, printmaking, and painting from Austin Peay State University in 2013 and was awarded the Tom Malone Scholarship. In 2018 she received her MFA from the University of Washington in Seattle, where she earned the Graduate Recruitment Award, Gonzales Graduate Recognition Award, and the Boyer and Elizabeth Bole Gonzales Scholarship. Astyr has exhibited her work nationally and internationally including a solo exhibition at Sand Point Gallery in Seattle, and a group exhibition at the Institute of Contemporary Arts Singapore. Her work has been published in the Friend of the Artist Publication where she earned the Top Artist Award in 2017. Astyr teaches Foundations, Drawing, and Painting at her Alma Mater, Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, TN. Learn more epay.apsu.edu
