Businesses Participate in New Owatonna High School Groundbreaking

A community event that celebrated the start of a new $104M educational investment and journey for Owatonna also included the businesses who invested heavily in the project: Federated Insurance, Viracon, Wenger Corporation, Mayo Clinic Health System, Cybex-Life Fitness, and Gopher Sport.  The Chamber Ambassadors and Board members also participated in the event.  Superintendent Elstad praised the partnerships that have been created to make this project happen.

Hotel, Restaurant, Streetscape Groundbreaking Set

A groundbreaking on the transformational projects downtown will happen on Thursday, June 3rd @ 5pm in the vacant lot on 200 N. Cedar.  It's celebrating $30M invested in the new Marriott Courtyard Hotel, Restaurant, Pearl Apartments, Old Town Bagels and Streetscape project.  You are invited to attend!

Ted G. Ringhofer Scholarship Awarded

The 24th Annual recipient of the Ted G. Ringhofer Memorial Scholarship is Jenna Gleason.  Jenna is the daughter of Joey & Debby Gleason and is planning on majoring in Nursing. Jenna was awarded  a $1,000 scholarship given by North Risk Partners/TPS Insurance Agency and the OACCT Ambassadors on May 6th - Congratulations!

Top 5 business issues shaping the last week of the legislative session

MN Chamber Report:  The Legislature is set to adjourn one week from today, May 17. Whether the state budget and other policy matters will be finished by then is a different matter.
The DFL-controlled House, GOP-controlled Senate and governor have differing positions on issues including raising or cutting taxes, workplace mandates, how to use federal COVID-19 relief money, police reform and more. Where does that leave issues impacting the business community? (Full Story)
Chamber Policy Committee Reports on Local Electeds:
Chamber's Public Policy committees goal is to attend 92% of local city and county meetings to keep abreast of issues that affect the business community.  
  • Preliminary Plat was approved for the new Pearl Apartment building at City Council on 4/20.
  • County approved a project that will place a chip seal on 28 miles of country highways and several city of Blooming Prairie streets to preserve the bituminous pavement. 
  • County Public Health reported that 52% or 14,876 people over 16 have had at least 1 dose of vaccine either at Public Health, pharmacies and grocery stores.

US Bank announced promotion of Todd Trout to Community Market President for US Bank, Owatonna.  Former President Corey Mensink has taken a new role with US Bank.

Small Business Can Host Vaccine Events

As Minnesota reopens and begins the journey to recovery, the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) is looking for businesses interested in hosting small vaccination events at their establishment.
Interested in hosting a community vaccination event? Complete the Community Vaccination Event Request Form to notify of your interest. You will then receive a call or email from MDH or an affiliated partner to discuss the best options for fulfilling your request.

Community Leadership Accepting Applications!

The Owatonna Community Leadership Academy (OCLA) is ready to take interested applications for the program.
OCLA program is designed to enable candidates to learn about Owatonna resources, values, strengths, weaknesses, and challenges.  A learning experience geared toward providing an in-dept look at eight key elements of our community; education, economic development, government, healthcare, public safety, quality of life, agri-business and culture & diversity.  This program will provide opportunities for candidates to exchange ideas, build networks and begin the process of identifying and solving important community issues.
