Dear Health Sciences academics and staff,
Today marks an important milestone for UC San Diego Health Sciences with the official launch of the Clinical and Academic Budget System (CABS).
CABS is a new, standardized, cloud-based tool that brings budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting into a single, integrated system. Its launch reflects our shared commitment to improving transparency, reducing administrative burden and strengthening financial decision-making across our clinical and academic missions.
This work directly responds to a key theme we heard in our 2024 Researcher Wellness Assessment: the need for clearer, more reliable and less burdensome financial planning tools. By reducing manual processes, minimizing shadow systems and improving access to real-time financial information, CABS is an important step toward supporting the well-being and productivity of our research and academic community.
This achievement would not have been possible without the extraordinary efforts of our Health Sciences finance team, along with many staff from across schools, departments and administrative units who contributed their time, expertise and feedback throughout design, testing and implementation. We are deeply grateful for their partnership and dedication.
Today’s launch begins a phased rollout, supported by training sessions, office hours and dedicated resources to ensure a smooth transition. Additional enhancements will continue as we build on this foundation. For questions about CABS or requests for more support, please contact Amanda David, Health Sciences budget director, at abbuss@health.ucsd.edu.
Thank you for your engagement and collaboration as we continue to strengthen and modernize our financial infrastructure in support of the clinical, research and academic missions of Health Sciences.
Sincerely,
