| Thinking about summer courses at another institution?
If your student plans to take summer courses elsewhere to catch up or to get ahead, they must consult with their academic advisor before registering. To receive transfer credit, students must be in good academic standing and obtain approval for specific courses. AU students may transfer up to 10 credits during their undergraduate career.
Major or minor requirements require departmental approval, and courses outside the major must be approved by the relevant AU department. Please note that AU Core (general education) courses cannot be fulfilled with transfer credits. Additionally, transfer course grades do not appear on the AU transcript and are not factored into the GPA.
When selecting another institution, keep in mind that many local universities are part of the Consortium of Universities of the Washington Metropolitan Area, which follows a different process.
Share the Permit to Study form with your student to learn about requirements and additional information.

Thank You - AU Giving Day!
| |
AU Giving Day may have ended, but the impact of our support will continue to shape the future of American University! Thanks to the generosity of the Eagle community, we have made tremendous strides in our mission to increase accessibility to an AU education, improve the student experience, and provide necessary support to community members who need it most.

Here’s what we accomplished together:
✅3,486 donors showed up for current and future Eagles, including 588 parents and families, the highest participation from AU families to date!
✅$558,704 was raised to support cutting-edge research, innovative campus programs, and provide financial aid to students in need.
✅47 states and 18 countries were represented in AU Giving Day.
When we unite around a shared purpose, amazing things happen -- and the impact will be felt by current Eagles and generations to come!
