No Wednesday Night Dinner or Activities Tonight!
                                                                         October 31, 2018

REMINDER: No Wednesday Night meal or programs tonight.
Regular schedule resumes NEXT Wednesday, November 7th.

In order to be the best possible stewards of your gifts, our Finance Committee is hard at work on the 2019 budget for PHUMC. To help them complete this task, we ask that all Pledge Cards be turned in by this Sunday, November 4th. We will have pledge cards available in the Worship Center on Sunday, or you may fill out a pledge card online BY CLICKING HERE.
Thank you for support of the mission and ministry of Parkway Hills!

What do Sweet Potatoes, the Grinch and a Bowl of Soup have in common?

Well, nothing; unless…
you join your church family in collecting canned sweet potatoes for MadCAAP’s Thanksgiving Meals! Whoever brings in the most cans will receive a FREE large popcorn and drink when we attendwait for it

the new Grinch movie Saturday, November 17th!
Following the movie, we will continue to fellowship together as a church family with a meal of soup and snacks.

Here are the details: We need 500 CANS of sweet potatoes to deliver to MadCAAP by 3:00 pm on Wednesday, November 14th. Place your donations in the bins provided at our entrances and sign the sheet posted with how many cans you brought to be entered to win!

Watch for more information, but please pick up a can (or 2 or 12!) of sweet potatoes to donate, and plan to join us for the movie at Malco Grandview Cinema on Saturday,  November 17th.  (Time TBA - it will be a matinee around 3:00 pm.)

Our hope every year as Advent approaches and we prepare for Christmas is that your church aids you in making this a special season of spiritual formation; and this year we need your help.
First, begin praying about this time in the life of our church. Ask God to show you someone you may invite to experience this time with us at Parkway Hills. Pray for all those who will visit with us during this season, that through us they may experience God’s love and grace shown in the gift of Christ. Second, as we move through a sermon series entitled, “The Characters of Christmas”, we will aid one another in our devotional time each day of Advent and the 12 days of Christmas.
We are putting together a Parkway Hills “Characters of Christmas” devotional book running from December 2nd through January 6th. We need 28 individuals who are willing to pick a character, and write a short devotional to be used by our church. Once you have chosen a character, pick a scripture and write a short devotion, (500 word maximum). Add a closing prayer, (you may write one, or choose one that is meaningful for you written by someone else or part of the tradition of the church). These would need to be turned in by November 12th. We are still working out the best way to make these available for use throughout the season. We are also talking about how to more fully incorporate social media, but we need to begin collecting now!
Please let us know ASAP if you'd like to help with this. We would like to focus on as many different characters as possible - let us know which one you are interested in so that we don't get 28 devotionals about Mary!  Stay on the lookout for other ways you may help mark this time within the life of our church.

Here are some ideas for Christmas Characters:  Gabriel  Mary  Joseph  Innkeeper  Shepherd  Wise Men  Herod  Anna  Simeon  Animals  Angels  Elizabeth  Zechariah •  Can you think of others?

November's Communion Offering will fund current US disaster response through the United Methodist Committee on Relief.  (UMCOR) When you give to UMCOR, you can be assured that 100% of your gift will be used to provide assistance needed by those affected by the impact of storms or other disasters.

We are planning for TWO Incentive Day Celebrations in support of East Flora Elementary School, one for PK - 2nd grade on Thursday, February 28th, and one for 3rd-5th grade on Friday, March 29th. Incentive Days allow those students who have met the criteria for positive behavior and academic responsibility to enjoy a morning of celebration with music, food, games, crafts and fun!  We'll need lots of help. Contact Allison Jordan to add your name to our volunteer list.
