Or what our institution’s responsibility may be in light of the crisis? Join faculty facilitators Aysha Bodenhamer and Stockton Maxwell in reading this important and new book by Bryan Alexander. Please register if you can commit to at least two of the meetings and you’ll receive a free copy of the book. Center for Archives and Digital History to host Dr. Douglas McRae |
The Radford University Center for Archives and Digital History is pleased to host Douglas McRae, postdoctoral research fellow at the Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media at George Mason University, for a virtual workshop and Q&A on Sept. 25, from 3 to 5 p.m. Attendees may attend the workshop via Zoom or in Hemphill Hall 4700, where it will be broadcast.
McRae will provide training for Tropy, a free, open-source tool that allows researchers to organize and describe photos of their research materials. Through its intuitive user interface, researchers can add metadata to images as well as combine, sort, annotate and edit their images. Tropy is an indispensable tool, whether you’re just embarking on a new research project or you’re looking for a different way to approach the images accumulating on your smartphone or hard drive.
| |
McRae will go over some basic features and uses of Tropy, including starting a new project, adding and editing photos, working with metadata templates and organizing items within a project. McRae will also briefly go over some more advanced functions of Tropy, namely creating and exporting custom metadata templates and exporting projects.
McRae encourages attendees and particularly first-time users to download or update to the current release on their laptop beforehand and (if possible) have some digitized sources or photos to practice working with Tropy during the session. Attendees can also just follow along if they prefer. Those with questions may contact Anthony Guidone, assistant professor of history at Radford University, at aguidone@radford.edu.
