Dear Colleagues,
Now that Fall has officially arrived, midterm grades have been entered, and we begin looking forward to the last part of the semester, CITAL invites you to reflect on some of the awesome things happening on campus. We begin this newsletter with workshop advisor training resources from the Assistant Provost, Kevin Goebbert, and then Cindy sharing highlights from her recent attendance at the Lilly Conference on Evidence-Based Teaching & Learning. Next, we are happy to share the good news of your colleagues who have successfully completed the Applying the Quality Matters Rubric (APPQMR) certification. Finally, we are excited to announce a host of upcoming online workshops and a new Faculty Focus Fridays series of open labs, hosted here in the CITAL Collaboration space. These workshops and support sessions are being provided to help make sure you are ready for the transition to Canvas. We look forward to your continued support and engagement.
Sincerely,
The CITAL Team (Ed, Cindy, Gina, and Marsennia)

Check-Ins to Foster Community and Building Your Students’ AI Toolbox

I recently attended the Lilly Conference on Evidence-Based Teaching and Learning in Traverse City, Michigan.  In this blog I will share with you two sessions that could be helpful for your own teaching. The first gives some ideas for simple check-ins with your students that can both build community and promote your students’ mental health. The second offers some useful information about how you can build your students’ AI Toolbox, as well as your own.

Congratulations to our Quality Matters certified faculty!

Seventeen faculty participated in this year's rigorous Applying the QM Rubric (APPQMR) workshop and earned the QM certificate. They learned about the underlying principles behind the QM Rubric and the critical elements of QM's quality assurance process for designing online and hybrid courses. This QM credential is quite a professional achievement for them and an asset for Valpo. Please join CITAL in giving kudos to these very special individuals. Here are several who agreed to be recognized for their success and QM credential achievement.  To learn more about QM at Valpo, click here.

WILL YOU BE READY?

Request Blackboard Course Migrations for Spring NOW!

Blackboard will end at Valpo on June 30, 2025.
You have the choice of starting your courses in Canvas from scratch or migrating existing content from your previous Blackboard courses. The migration process may take up to two weeks. If you are thinking about migration next semester, now is the time to request to have your previous Blackboard courses copied to Canvas for spring 2025.
The request for 2025 summer course migrations will be coming soon!

Transitioning to Canvas Gradebook
