Dear Partner in Ministry,
As we look ahead to Georgetown Presbyterian Church’s 250th anniversary in 2030, we find ourselves at the beginning of a new chapter in our shared ministry. In preparation for the celebration, the Session is envisioning ways in which we can strengthen our ministries, our congregation, and our building for today and generations to come. After nine months of exploratory conversations led by Pastor Camille, Liza Boyd, and Bill Krokowski, the Session has determined that a capital campaign is an important component of marking our 250 years as a congregation and preparing us for the ministry that lies ahead.
The nine-month exploratory phase involved conversations with campaign consultants, architects, staff and elders. At the Session meeting on June 17, 2025, the Session unanimously approved moving forward with a capital campaign.
A capital campaign is a significant and hopeful undertaking. It offers us the opportunity to discern - together - God’s vision for our future. It invites us to build upon our firm foundation and ensure that our facilities and ministries serve well in the years to come. In its deliberation and discernment, the Session thought critically about undertaking this endeavor in an interim season between senior pastors. After much conversation, the Session decided to move forward given the needs of our aging building and the synergy between the visioning work required by a capital project and the discernment work to define the congregation’s mission and vision in preparation to call a new pastor.
As a first step, the Session retained the services of FGM Architects. FGMA is a firm with deep experience in church and historical property design and is well-suited to help us evaluate our building and reimagine spaces in ways that reflect and support GPC’s history, mission, fellowship, and outreach.
Simultaneously, a campaign steering committee is being pulled together to build on the groundwork that Camille, Liza, and Bill have already done.
As we begin this discernment process together, your input is crucial. Please take a few moments to complete FGMA’s Ministry Facility Survey by Sunday, June 20th. In addition to the online survey, there will also be focus groups with FGMA in person and on Zoom, where you’ll have the opportunity to learn more and share your thoughts. Dates and times forthcoming.
Looking ahead, FGMA anticipates presenting conceptual designs and renderings of the church building this fall. At that time, we will move into the next phase of campaign preparation.
The Session has also unanimously approved retaining James D. Klote & Associates, a campaign consulting firm that will provide a full-time, on-site consultant to guide us through a feasibility study, our annual stewardship outreach, and the capital campaign.
On Sunday mornings, the church flows with faith, energy, creativity and optimism. As we imagine how we might honor 250 years of ministry in 2030, we do so with hope and anticipation for how we serve our congregation, our neighborhood, and the world for years to come. We embark on this project to weave together the needs of an aging building with the dreams of a vibrant community for the next 250 years.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions.
Grace and peace,
Liza Boyd and Bill Krokowski
