Two Weeks Until Wordplay!

March 31, 7:00 p.m., Paramount Theater 

Wordplay is just around the corner! 
Wordplay is Literacy Volunteers' annual fundraiser. Teams of three from local organizations and businesses compete in an orginial trivia game. The trivia covers pop-culture, movies, music and more. There is something for everyone!  
Check out our current team list!  We have 29 teams competing from a variety of organizations. If you have friends who are participating or you want to see what the game is all about purchase audience tickets today. Audience tickets are available at the LVCA office and on the Paramount website for 20 dollars. 
Raffle prizes are also available. Our raffle prizes include a UVA sports package and a lovely sunrise hot air balloon ride for two. You can purchase tickets at our office or online. Raffle tickets will also be available during the event. 

Come support our students at Voices of Adult Learners today!

Congratulations to our students, Havva, Wahida, and Yama, who are winners in the regional writing contest “Voices of Adult Learners!”  Come listen to them read their stories tonight at 6:30 p.m. at PVCC’s V. Earl Dickinson Building. This event is part of the Virginia Festival of the Book, and is free and open to the public, https://www.vabook.org/events/2022/03/26th-annual-voices-of-adult-learners/.

Spring Training Dates 

We have new information sessions and tutor training sessions available now! Click the links below to register. Our student waitlist is growing, and we'd love to train new volunteers to help meet the needs of the adults who come to us for assistance. This is the perfect time to invest in becoming a tutor. 
Information sessions are one-hour workshops to learn more before committing to a training. Our next sessions are: 
  • March: Wednesday, March 23, 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. or 7:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. 
Training sessions are three 2-hour zoom sessions to equip volunteers for tutoring. Volunteers can tutor online, in-person, or a combination of both. 
    • April: Wednesdays 3:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.
      • April 13, April 20, April 27 
    • May: Mondays 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.  
      • May 9, 16, 23
