SPECIAL NOTICES
Organ and Sound System Project Update: Christ Church’s new Colby/Walker organ was played for the first time during the 11:15 Eucharist on Sunday, August 3. Thanks be to God! Installation of a new speech reinforcement system, which will be used in conjunction with the new acoustical enhancement system, will continue for several more weeks. The entire project should be complete by month’s end. We offer sincere thanks to all who have supported this multifaceted effort. Questions? Contact Organist and Choirmaster Thomas Smith.
Feeding Ministry: Christ Church’s Feeding Ministry will next provide a meal to those in need on Sunday, August 10. Parishioners of all ages and abilities are encouraged to participate. Volunteers prepare food in the Keith Hall kitchen from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. Grate Patrol volunteers then partner with the Salvation Army to deliver and serve the food from 6:15 to 8:00 p.m. To volunteer, click here.
Homecoming Sunday: All are cordially invited to join us on Sunday, September 7 for the official start of the 2025-2026 program year. As is our custom, a combined celebration of the Holy Eucharist at 10:00 a.m. will be followed by a festive picnic featuring barbeque and dessert, as well as face painting and other activities for children. Volunteers are needed to assist in various ways. For more information, click here. We look forward to celebrating the start of a new program year with you and yours! NOTE: The combined celebration of the Holy Eucharist at 10:00 a.m. will be the only liturgy on Homecoming Sunday.
GENERAL NOTICES
Sunset Cinema at the Wharf: On Thursday, August 7, at 7:30 p.m., all parishioners and their guests are invited to kick back under the stars for a viewing of the classic rom-com How to lose a guy in ten days. The Christ Church contingent will gather on Transit Pier (970 Wharf Street, SW). Admission is free. For more information, contact Father Nate Huddleston.
Bite-sized Bible Study: Join fellow parents of nursery and Sunday School-aged children for a team-led, 30-minute exploration of the Book of Proverbs. The group gathers on Sundays, at 10:15 a.m., in the Memorial Room. Nursery care for infants and toddlers, as well as supervised, age-appropriate activities for older children, is provided in the Nursery and Room 105. For more information, contact parishioners Julia Ainsley, Megan Murton, or Matthew Fredericks.
Fall 2025 New Members Class: A Path Towards Membership: Would you like to learn more about the Episcopal/Anglican tradition — its history, theology, and practices? Would you like to become more involved in the life of the parish community? Would you like to become a registered member of Christ Church, Georgetown? Then join us for six consecutive Sundays of learning and fellowship, beginning September 21, at 10:00 a.m. Questions? Contact Father Nate Huddleston. To register, click here.
Volunteers Needed: Do you enjoy floral arranging? If so, consider participation in Christ Church’s Flower Guild, a dedicated team of volunteers who create floral decorations for Sunday services (except during Lent), for the liturgies of Christmas, Holy Week, and Easter, and for baptisms, weddings, and funerals. Members of the Flower Guild must be communicants in good standing. Helpful qualities include flexibility and a collaborative spirit. For more information, contact co-chairs Doris Dixon or Christy Thorley.
Each Sunday, the floral arrangements at the altar and throughout the Church are disassembled and repurposed into smaller arrangements, which are then hand-delivered to parishioners and others who are sick, homebound, or grieving. These deliveries are made by participants in the Flower Ministry. Additional volunteers are needed. For more information about this vital ministry, contact co-chairs Anna Brooke or Christy Thorley.
Altar Flowers: If you would like to make a contribution to help offset the cost of the flowers that will adorn the altar on a particular Sunday or feast day, contact the Parish Office. The Flower Guild accepts contributions in memory of the departed, in celebration of births, and in thanksgiving for the reception of Christian sacraments. Contributions marking private secular celebrations are welcome, but they will not be acknowledged in service leaflets or the Prayers of the People. In such cases, donors are encouraged to let loved ones know of their contribution with a greeting card. The suggested donation is $100.
Email Scam: Please be advised that scammers are again using the Rector’s name and a fraudulent email address to solicit financial assistance. Father Tim only communicates with parishioners using his Christ Church, Georgetown account. He will never ask for contributions of money or gift cards via email. Questions? Speak with a member of the clergy or staff.
Mark your calendar: As we prepare to embark upon a new program year, be sure to add these special liturgical events to your personal/family calendar:

Opportunities for Summertime Service
in the Wider Community
Georgetown Ministry Center (GMC): Summer is a critical period for GMC, a longtime parish mission partner. As the temperature rises, so does the need for essential items such as t-shirts, underwear, sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses. With your help, GMC can continue to provide comfort, relief, and dignity during Washington’s muggiest months. Additionally, volunteers are needed to support daily operations – an excellent way for students to fulfill community service hours. To sign up, click here.
REACT DC: Begun in September 2021, REACT DC seeks to assist Afghan allies through innovative resettlement support operations. Parishioners have the opportunity to assist families through efforts such as meeting them at the airport, transporting them to their lodging, assisting with grocery runs, and contributing to REACT’s resettlement wishlist. Questions? Contact Deacon Andrew Stump.
