Mobile health care providers understand the value of meeting patients in their own environment, on their own terms. However, this adaptability and flexibility must be supported by policies and procedures that ensure the safety and security of patients and staff in a trauma-informed manner.
The Council will host a new learning series in September and October that will explore the mobile health safety and security concerns raised by our community partners, the strategies created to address these concerns, and ways to support the physical and mental health needs of patients and staff. The series will address four specific topics:
- Safety and Security: Addressing External Risk Factors (Thursday, September 8)
- Safety and Security: Addressing Internal Risk Factors (Thursday, September 15)
- Models for Mobile Health Billing (Thursday, October 13)
- Advocating for Mobile Health Services (Thursday, October 20)
Each hour-long session will begin at 1 p.m. ET / 12 p.m. CT / 11 a.m. MT / 10 a.m. PT / 9 a.m. AKT / 7 a.m. HT. Click the button below for more details.

Medical Respite and Addressing Monkeypox

Monkeypox has been declared a public health emergency by federal officials. Medical respite programs may have been, or will be, asked to support individuals with monkeypox. However, this presents a challenge as monkeypox is an infectious disease with specific guidelines to prevent transmission and infection; unfortunately, those within congregate settings are more at risk.
Join the Council's Respite Care Providers' Network (RCPN) for a coffee chat on Thursday, September 8 (1:30 p.m. ET / 12:30 p.m. CT / 11:30 a.m. MT / 10:30 a.m. PT / 9:30 a.m. AKT / 7:30 a.m. HT) to share in discussion around how monkeypox is currently affecting your community, protocols you have implemented, and concerns and challenges you are facing. As a community, we can learn from each other and put forward practices that keep our clients and staff safe, while increasing the health and well-being of those we serve.
For additional guidance on monkeypox in people experiencing homelessness, please read the Council’s fact sheet.

Community Food Mapping Learning Collaborative: Apply Now

Food insecurity has been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, with the number of people suffering from hunger greatly increasing. For people experiencing homelessness at risk for developing Type 2 diabetes, finding healthy food options can be a challenge.
Applications are currently being accepted for an upcoming Community Food Mapping learning collaborative that will focus on how to identify and map food resources in local communities. Engaging clients in food mapping is required to participate in this learning collaborative. Guidance will be provided on promising practices for consumer engagement, and personalized technical assistance will be available for the duration of the project.
Client (consumer) advisory board members, case managers, community health workers, peer educators, care coordinators, social workers, or any health center staff who assist clients in navigating community food resources are invited to apply. The collaborative will consist of four sessions, beginning Thursday, September 29. The deadline for applications is Friday, September 23.

"Pathways to Peace" Promotes Healing for People of Color Working at Health Centers

Racial trauma is experienced both personally and professionally for people of color (POC), making wellness an important -- yet challenging -- part of life. People of color employed at health centers experience microaggressions and implicit biases daily, leading to traumatic stress, feelings of hurt, and a sense of loneliness even while working in a crowded and busy environment.
Recognizing the need to provide a safe space for people of color to promote healing, the Council has planned a three-part series focusing on “Pathways to Peace.”
Join us on Friday, September 23 (2 p.m. ET / 1 p.m. CT / 12 p.m. MT / 11 a.m. PT / 10 a.m. AKT / 8 a.m. HT), for the first 90-minute interactive discussion, led by Chante’ Gamby, LCSW, founder of Fringe Counseling, Coaching, and Consulting. The session, "Pathways to Peace: An Introduction to Workplace (and Other) Wellness Concepts," will focus on personal self-care. During this time, participants will have an opportunity to share their experiences, receive tools to support wellness, and build supportive networks.
(NOTE: This special training is intended for individuals who identify as being a part of the BIPOC community. While we appreciate our allies, we ask that this space be reserved for those who identify as BIPOC only. We plan to have additional workshops for allies in the future.)

Share Your Insight: Race to Lead Survey 2022

The Council has been continually focused on helping our community foster Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in their organizations, beginning with learning collaboratives in 2018. An important tool that has helped the nonprofit sector understand the dimensions of the dynamics of race and leadership in nonprofit organizations has been the Race to Lead survey, which is a project of the Building Movement Project. We are encouraging you to distribute this survey and ask all your staff to complete it. It takes about 30-40 minutes, and is a valuable use of time.
The link for the survey has a report from the previous (2019) survey and other reports. We hope that many of your staff will be able to contribute their experiences and insights to the Race to Lead survey.
