Updated Consumer Advisory Board

Manual Released

The National Consumer Advisory Board recently released a new CAB Manual – the Manual's first update in 10 years. NCAB members compiled their collective decades of experience to share lessons learned on how to develop and structure a CAB, create activities that help the CAB represent their community, and support the growth of the CAB.

In the Manual’s foreword, Council CEO Bobby Watts writes: “Though everyone has something to say, not everyone believes they will be heard. This Manual is important because it gives consumers the tools to speak through the power of CABs. It shows how to organize and operate CABs so that consumers with experience can speak and be heard by their HCH programs and other consumers."

New Webinar: Advancing Health Equity During and Beyond COVID-19: Addressing Housing and Homelessness

People who are housing insecure or experiencing homelessness typically have poorer physical and mental health outcomes and are at greater risk for infection during the COVID-19 pandemic, in addition to other challenges.

Council CEO Bobby Watts will join speakers from the National Low Income Housing Coalition and other organizations on a webinar hosted by Trust for America's Health to discuss the disproportionate and long-existing economic and health disparities among people who are housing insecure or experiencing homelessness, and how the pandemic is widening those disparities.

COVID-19 has put a spotlight on vulnerable populations, including those in prisons and jails. Incarceration and homelessness are intimately linked. Homelessness is often the result of criminal justice involvement and, in turn, people experiencing homelessness are criminalized for living their private lives in public.

An upcoming webinar offered by the Association of Clinicians for the Underserved as part of their Policy & Practice Series focuses on caring for this vulnerable population during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Council Welcomes New Advancement Coordinator

Andrea Crowe has joined the Council as Advancement Coordinator. She will maintain the donor and membership database; manage fundraising lists of individuals, organizations, and foundations; and provide a range of administrative services in the areas of philanthropy and member relations.
