Good Evening,
Northeast
A former PD for Federated Media's CHR/WMEE (97.3fm, Fort Wayne) recently died. In the 1980s, John Curry programmed and did middays at WMEE, rising to OM.
Mr. Curry died on Monday in Lawrenceville, Illinois at age 70. Here's the complete obituary.
Adams Radio's CHR/WJFX (107.9fm, New Haven) adds Billy Cova ("Cova") in nights. Mr. Cova last hosted nights at WDZH in Detroit, Michigan. Mr. Cova succeeds Patrick Grey who took a full-time job outside of radio, but remains on the air over the weekend.
Joe Strus joins Nexstar's CBS affiliate/WANE-TV (Channel 15, Fort Wayne) as a weekend morning meteorologist. Mr. Strus graduated from Ball State University last fall.
Northcentral
Veteran South Bend broadcaster and programmer Gary Hegland joins Sound Management's 1980s/WYXX (97.7fm, Goshen) in afternoons (3pm until 7pm).
Central
Dispatch Broadcasting's NBC affiliate WTHR-TV (Channel 13, Indianapolis) promotes Jeff Rosetti from Assistant News Director to News Director. Mr. Rosetti joined WTHR-TV in 2011 after working for CNN, as Senior Broadcast Producer for Reliable Sources.
Mr. Rosetti became interim ND after Kathy Hostetter exited last year for the News Director role at KDKA-TV in Pittsburgh.
Nexstar's CW affiliate WISH-TV (Channel 8, Indianapolis) inks a two year deal with The Indy Eleven soccer team. WISH will broadcast 7 games, while sister MyNetwork TV affiliate/WNDY-TV (Channel 23) will broadcast 17 games. Between the two stations, they will broadcast all home games and several road games. Veteran Indianapolis sportscaster Greg Rakestraw will handle play by play, with Brad Hauter adding color.
Westcentral
Here's a rarity: in the fall of 1967, Roger Reynolds joined WTAY(AM) and FM in Robinson, Illinois. Mr. Reynolds worked there for half a century, mostly hosting mornings ("Wakin' Up Show"), along with telling kids about what school would be serving for lunch (He did this as "Lunchman"). The Original Company purchased the radio stations in 2010. Sad to report that Roger died on Tuesday in Terre Haute. He was 71. Here's more about Roger's broadcasting career from the WTAY website, and here's the obituary.
