The Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship awards up to $5,000 to students who receive Federal Pell Grants to study abroad. Students attending this event will learn how to approach the Follow-on Service Project Proposal through hands-on writing activities. Register here.

Ebell Scholarship
The Ebell/Flint Scholarship is a $5,000 renewable award, open to undergrads of any major, and who are residents of LA County. Recipients are chosen based on academic achievement, community service/leadership, and (broadly defined) financial need. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident with a min GPA of 3.25. University of Virginia Bridge to the Doctorate Fellowship- Deadline: March 1! Our bridge program provides two full years of fellowship (financial) support without teaching responsibilities for students to enroll in a combination of courses, guided research opportunities and UVA’s intensive graduate student professional development curriculum known as “PhD Plus.” Each bridge fellow will work individually with faculty to develop a customized academic plan that will identify opportunities for additional disciplinary training, enable them to cultivate writing and research skills specific to their field, and develop a competitive portfolio for applying to doctoral programs. Bridge fellows will have the opportunity to complete a graduate certificate or master’s degree. Qualified students will be considered for promotion into UVA’s own doctoral programs after the first or second year.

Understanding Nature and Los Angeles Biodiversity (UNLAB) Postbaccalaureate Training Program- Deadline: March 3! Based in the Research & Collections Department at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County (NHMLAC), the program will host mentees in a 1-year research and professional preparation program working with NHMLAC curators as mentors. Each mentee will work on a research project that explores the history of Los Angeles biodiversity or the impact of humans and urbanization on Los Angeles biodiversity. The UNLAB program is for postbaccalaureates who did not have an opportunity to conduct research during their undergraduate degree program, with a focus on postbaccalaureates who have been historically excluded and are underrepresented in the natural sciences. Participants will be full-time temporary, hourly employees with benefits, for a one year term (July 2023–June 2024), working at the Natural History Museum in downtown Los Angeles. Salary is $19/hour.
Eligibility:
- Your college graduation date falls between July 2019 and June 2023. Exceptions will be allowed for family-related circumstances, medical leave, or military service.
- You did NOT have substantial research experience during or following your college career.
- You completed an introductory biology course.
- You are a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, lawful refugee, or permanent resident of the United States.
- You can provide proof of full vaccination against COVID-19. Exemptions for documented medical reasons or a sincerely held religious belief may be requested.

Study Abroad in Japan: Bridging Scholarships- Deadline: March 15! The Bridging Project offers scholarships to American undergraduate students participating in study-abroad programs in Japan. Applications are now being accepted from students who will study abroad in Japan beginning in Fall 2023 or Spring 2024. Bridging Scholarship recipients receive a stipend of $2,500 (for students on semester-long programs) or $4,500 (for students on academic year programs).

Boston University School of Law LSAC PLUS Programs- Deadline: March 15! BU Summer Pre-Law Academy, designed for students one year away from applying to law school, is focused on countering structural and environmental forces that unevenly tax students of color. The program will expose students to scholarship, including Critical Race Theory, produced by academics and activists of color that illuminates the racialized (and often overlooked) dimensions of law and legal education. Travel to and from Boston, housing during the program, and many meals will be covered. The program will host several social events on campus and outings in Boston. Additionally, all PLUS participants who successfully complete the program will receive a $1000 stipend and an LSAC fee waiver.

Freeman-ASIA Study Abroad Scholarship- Deadline: March 28. Provides need-based funding of up to $7,000 for study abroad programs in Summer 2023, Fall 2023, or Spring 2024. Eligible locations include Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Macao, Malaysia, Mongolia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam. Open to U.S. citizens and permanent residents. Eligible programs must be a minimum of 8 weeks abroad.

Asian American Journalists Association VOICES Summer Fellowship- Deadline: March 3! VOICES is a student fellowship program that provides aspiring journalists with career-ready skills to succeed in the continually-evolving media landscape. The program’s mission is to help a diverse group of aspiring journalists understand how audiences engage with them, how communities view the work they produce, and how they can understand the impact of their work. This program is open to undergraduate and graduate students interested in journalism. We are looking for students who are interested in producing a long-form, in-depth news project over the course of the summer. Reporters, social media strategists, designers, developers, data engineers, podcasters, broadcasters, bloggers are all welcome to apply The program this year will consist of summer-long training and project work that begins in mid-April and culminates at the AAJA National Convention, which this year will be in Washington DC from Wednesday, July 19 to Sunday, July 23.

NSF REU | US-Mexico Collaboration on Multimodal Detection of Objectionable Content in Online Videos - Deadline: March 1! IRES students will be trained and mentored on multilingual methods of language processing, image/video analysis, and deep learning for multimodal data. Selected candidates will receive travel & accommodation expenses in Mexico and a stipend. Must be a US Citizen or permanent resident. Open to undergraduate or graduate students with a background in Computer Science or related fields.

MathILy-EST- Deadline: April 5. An 8-week, fully funded intensive summer research experience for exceptional first-year college students. Have you excelled in inquiry-based learning classes? Did you spend your pre-college career studying mathematics for fun? Do you want to try research in mathematics, but are too early in your college career to have the formal prerequisites that most research programs require? If your answer to any of those questions is yes, then MathILy-EST is for you. Participants receive a $4800 stipend, plus on-campus housing and meals while at Bryn Mawr.

AF STEM Teacher Fellowship- Deadline: February 24! The AF Teacher Fellowship provides teachers an opportunity to work on a real-life technology team doing software development, enterprise information management or technical infrastructure projects. They can then take this experience back to their classrooms to help their students learn about and prepare for these careers. The AF Teacher Fellows will earn a corporate IT salary for the time they work during the summer of 2023. Schedules will be flexible to accommodate differing school summer schedules, required professional development days, etc. AF Teacher Fellows will also receive a $2,000 stipend to use for their classroom upon completion of the program. Applications are open to third through twelfth grade STEM teachers.

OTVFELLOWS Program- Deadline: March 1! Identifies and mobilizes indie filmmaking professionals within the global filmscape; prioritizing intersectional writers, directors, producers and creators by providing them with tangible resources, generative education, and intentional mentorship. In 2023, we are mobilizing storytellers who are currently writing a script and need more intentional time to cultivate their dialog, expand story arcs and build a transformational world for those characters — all while receiving a $5,000 stipend, mentorship, fellowship, and more.
