The Radford University Mock Trial Team earned its first-ever bid to the opening round of the National Championship Series, putting them in the top 30% of more than 700 teams in the country. The team also won two All Region Outstanding Attorney Awards, three All Region Outstanding Witness Awards and the Best Sportsmanship Award.

These photos will be taken by fellow students in McConnell Library 271 from Monday-Friday, Feb. 24-28, at the following times:

- Tuesday: 1:30-4:30 p.m.

“Die Schöne Müllerin” performance on Feb. 21 |

Radford University music and theater students and faculty will offer a performance of “Die Schöne Müllerin,” or “The Beautiful Daughter of the Miller,” on Friday, Feb. 21, at 7:30 p.m. at the Main Stage in the Artis Center. This event, recently featured on WVTF radio, is part of a mental wellness workshop as well.

The Radford University Center for Accessibility Services (CAS) will host the inaugural Calm Day, a special campus-wide event, on Wednesday, Feb. 26.
Calm Day will offer students, faculty and staff the unique opportunity to experience a quieter, less stimulating atmosphere across campus, with a focus on inclusivity for those who identify as atypical or neurodivergent, including individuals with ADHD, autism, sensory processing disorders and dyslexia.

Calm Day will feature a variety of activities from several campus partners designed to promote relaxation, mindfulness and connection – ensuring everyone has the chance to participate and engage in a more peaceful way. Whether you’re looking to unwind, learn or simply enjoy some calm, there’s something for everyone.

Attendees will have a unique chance to interact with the film’s directors, screenwriters and a main character with a disability during Q&A sessions from 2:30-3 p.m. and 6-6:30 p.m., gaining insight into the film’s context and themes before each show starts.
“Pulling Threads” will speak to a wide audience, including parents, teachers, siblings and people with a disability. This screening provides a valuable opportunity for our community to engage in meaningful conversations about inclusion, advocacy and diversity, fostering a deeper sense of connection and awareness.
This event is free and open to the public.

February 25 is a big day for art and performance at Radford |

Diesel punk artist Tony Snipes will visit art classrooms at Radford University and deliver an open discussion at noon in the Performance Hub to explore building a brand and making a living as an artist.

Artist-in-residence Margaret LeJeune will discuss her exhibition “Thirteen Hours to Fall” at 4 p.m. in the Davis Performance Hall in the Douglas and Beatrice Covington Center for Visual and Performing Arts. A reception will follow the discussion.

Artrageous comes to the Main Stage in the Artis Center at 7:30 p.m. Admissions is $15 for adults, $7.50 for children 12 and under and free with Radford University ID. Tickets are now available.

The reception for the spring Juried Student Art Show will now take place in the Tyler Gallery next to BT’s on Wednesday, Feb. 26, from 5-7 p.m. Refreshments will be served. The event is free and open to the public.
- Dayl Burnett’s Midday Music Concert
This concert in the Performance Hub has been rescheduled for Wednesday, March 5, at 12:15 p.m. In addition, this Midday Music Concert will be a celebration of Black History Month.

Due to the recent weather closures, the Office of Marketing and Communication is rescheduling the headshot photos in Roanoke for any employees who need one for the website directory, as well as for returning employees who would like a more current photo for the directory.
Ten-minute slots are available on the following dates:

Photos will be taken in the third-floor board room at Radford University Carilion, 101 Elm Ave. The board room is in the Administration Suite just off the third-floor lobby to the right of the Information Desk. Look for signs in the lobby and the Administration Suite that will direct you to the right place on your date/time.

The Office of Student Affairs in Roanoke is now accepting entries for the Tartan 5K T-shirt design contest. The deadline for entries is Sunday, March 2. Entries must be submitted via online form.
The winning design will receive a $300 cash prize, free race entry and a race T-shirt with the winning design. This contest is open to all current Radford University students.

Plan an event for the 2025 Radford University Family and Friends Weekend |

The 2025 Radford University Family and Friends Weekend will be held Friday-Sunday, Sept. 26-28. University departments and offices are encouraged to participate by hosting events for the approximately 1,500 students, families and guests that will be on campus.
The Radford University Office of Student Involvement asks that events planned for this celebration be submitted online by Thursday, May 15.

Summer Institute in Research and Creativity coming May 15-16 |
|
|
Join the Office of Faculty Development for two relaxing days at the Selu Conservancy meant to launch your summer research, writing or creative project. This two-day in-person retreat, on Thursday and Friday, May 15-16, will feature structured writing time on the deck, optional hiking and other relaxing activities, resources to support your work, food and goal-setting activities. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. You are also encouraged to bring a lawn chair so you can comfortably write outside (weather permitting).
Whether you are writing a grant or an article, planning an artistic project or organizing a professional leave project, this retreat is designed to help you get your project underway. All faculty and staff members are welcome to register, but please note that seats are limited.
