Five PSU faculty receive Fulbright Scholar awards

Five members of the Portland State University faculty and one student received Fulbright Scholar awards for the upcoming academic year. The Fulbright program, operated by the U.S. State Department, partners with more than 160 countries worldwide to offer international educational and cultural exchange programs for students, scholars, artists, teachers, and professionals of all backgrounds to study, teach, or pursue important research and professional projects. The following faculty received the awards:

Melody Valdini, professor of political science in the College of Urban and Public Affairs
Tomas Cotik, associate professor of violin in the College of the Arts
Tami Lasseter Clare, associate professor of chemistry in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences,
Christopher Campbell, associate professor in the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice
Jennifer Allen, Interim Dean of the College of Urban and Public Affairs and Professor of Environmental and Natural Resources Policy

SHAC’s Dana Tasson receives Fellows Award

Dana Tasson, MD, Assoc. Vice Provost for Student Health and Wellbeing, has been selected as a recipient of the American College Health Association’s (ACHA) Fellows Award for the 2022-23 program year. ACHA Fellows, first recognized in 1967, are members who have given outstanding service to the association and have demonstrated superior professional stature and performance in the college health field. He will be honored during a ceremony in Boston on May 31.

PSU Faculty: Get ready for commencement

Commencement season is right around the corner! PSU is returning to Moda Center for two combined ceremonies on Sunday, June 18, with the College of the Arts holding its separate ceremony on Friday, June 16 at Viking Pavilion. For information on ordering regalia, attending the faculty luncheon, and this year’s hooding process, visit the faculty commencement webpage.

Celebrate Pride with Campus Rec!

Join Campus Rec for a variety of Pride events taking place in May and early June to celebrate LGBTQ+ representation and continue the fight for equality. Participants receive an exclusive Pride t-shirt! Free for Campus Rec members — including all current PSU students. $7 for guests. PSU faculty and staff can attend faculty/staff events for free, and can self-sponsor themselves as a guest for $7 for all other Pride events.

Viking athletes selected to NCAA Career in Sports Forum

Three Portland State student-athletes, Mariana Garcia Rosette of the women’s golf program, Jobi Malary of the football team, and Andrea Brignacca of the men’s tennis team have been selected among 200 attendees across all three NCAA divisions for the NCAA's Career in Sports Forum, June 1-4 in Indianapolis, Ind. This unique three-day forum helps student-athletes chart their career paths. Participants network with and learn from current athletics professionals.
