RVR is a special place and there are various details about the community that many may not be aware of. To help inform homeowners about all of RVR's unique features, we will run a "Did You Know" section each week in the newsletter.
Who Provides Irrigation Water at RVR?
All irrigated areas at RVR including, parks, rights-of-way, open spaces, private lawns and community landscaping, are irrigated by raw water from the Crystal River. Irrigation water delivery is a joint effort between the RVRMA and the Golf Course. The water right belongs to the Town of Carbondale, and RVR has rights to the town’s water right.
There are 4 ditches that flow through RVR: Lowline (we have a small allocation off of this ditch), Bowles & Holland, Lombardi-Weaver and the Town of Carbondale Ditch. We draw water from all of those except for the Lombardi Weaver Ditch.
The largest water source for our community (and the golf course) comes from the Bowles & Holland. It supplies the two ponds near hole #2 of the golf course. One lake acts as a settling pond, the other feeds one of our 3 pump stations. There are also two ponds behind the Ranch House, one acts as a settling pond and water is drawn from the second to irrigate the Ranch House, the Boundary, Old Town and the Settlement.
Curious about Water usage?
The average annual RVR water usage (averaged over the last 3 years) is 127,796,256 gallons. That number is for our residential use only, the golf course uses more water for irrigation than we do.
The three year average of golf usage versus RVR residential usage is 42.5% RVRMA and 57.5% RVR Golf.
Putting all of that math together, when combined with the golf course, our community uses around 172,944,111 gallons of water each year.
