We recently received a $20,000 grant from the Robert H. Spitz Foundation, managed by the Scranton Area Community Foundation, to support the exploration and implementation of Shared Equity Housing models in Scranton. This funding will enable NeighborWorks to build staff capacity to assess the feasibility of establishing a Community Land Trust in the area. Read more here.

NeighborWorks hosts first Neighborhood Leaders Forum this year
We recently collaborated once again with our friends at United Neighborhood Centers of Northeastern Pennsylvania to host our latest edition of the Scranton Neighborhood Leaders Forum. Bringing together resident leaders from throughout the City of Scranton, the Neighborhood Leaders Forum presents information from community partners on programming to improve quality of life in local neighborhoods.

This edition of the forum featured presentations from the City of Scranton Shade Tree Commission, City of Scranton recycling program, and Pennsylvania Operation Lifesaver Inc. Special thanks to our partners at The University of Scranton Office of Community Relations for hosting our event!

First-time homebuyer workshop season is currently underway
We have recently hosted our first two first-time homebuyer workshops of 2025 this month. Our expert-led courses provide free, unbiased, HUD-certified guidance to help prospective homebuyers qualify for first-time homebuyer assistance and free counseling after the course. Our courses provide information on buying a home, avoiding foreclosure, rental assistance and financial literacy. All workshops are posted one month in advance and are available on the events calendar on our website here.

For residents in Monroe County, we are hosting a workshop later this month. Our workshop will be held on Saturday, April 26, at the Pocono Mountains United Way office at 301 McConnell Street from 10am-4pm. Registration is available here.
