Important Federal Issue Update: Balance Billing

Congress is considering multiple proposals to protect patients from surprise medical bills. Draft legislation is moving through committees in both the U.S. House and Senate with different approaches that affect balance billing.

Let them hear from you personally! The U.S. House of Representatives adjourned for August recess last week and the Senate is expected to adjourn this week. Congressmen will return to their home districts to engage constituents on key issues, and they need to hear from doctors on the different balance billing proposals making their way through the legislative process.

We are bringing back this opportunity to meet your state legislators face to face and hear about important issues in the upcoming legislative session. We had 60 members attend Day on the Hill in March, and we are excited to build on this momentum with this event. The CME previously offered for our members in September will now transition to an online option to allow more access to the content and more meaningful engagement with our members.

TMA releases 2019 Legislative Report Card

Members of the Nashville Academy of Medicine work closely with the Tennessee Medical Association to support its legislative advocacy efforts. We had more than 60 members attend Day on the Hill in March, and many NAM members contacted their legislators about issues important to them. Key issues championed by TMA included GME, opioids, telemedicine, balance billing, and more.
