Middle School Update

Please mark your calendars for our Middle School Meet the Teacher event on Thursday, September 24th.  Teachers will offer evening sessions for parents to meet their students’ teachers.  Each middle school will communicate details by the end of the day on Monday, September 21st. Director of Schools, Jim Comegys says,”WE are excited about this fall and how our Colonial teachers and students will be working together to learn.  WE have grown and evolved significantly from where we started this spring.  Students, families, and teachers were all in crisis mode back then. Now we are working in our new normal called the Colonial Virtual Academy.  We intentionally started last week with a rolling start so our teachers and students would have time to connect with each other.  We wanted to use the first week as a time to practice; to get comfortable using the technology, including Chromebooks, Schoology, and Zoom.  Please visit both your school and district websites for support, to ask questions, and stay informed.   We are looking forward to a great school year!”

Help for Your Day Care Provider

If you are sending your child to a Child Care Provider who is helping with remote learning, we are here to assist them.  Please click on this link to complete a brief survey so that Child Care Providers will have the information about your child’s specific schedule and needs. This is not mandatory, but some Child Care Providers and families have expressed a desire for more student information regarding Colonial’s Virtual Academy.  Once the survey has been received and completed by the school, the student’s information will be forwarded directly to the Childcare Provider via email.

We Continue to Feed!

Partnering with our Transportation Department, Nutrition Services, AND our Colonial Parents WE  have delivered 38346 delicious and nutritious student meals since September 8th!

Did you know school meals are a powerful educational support that have been shown to improve behavior, the ability to focus, and academic performance?    The meals Colonial serves are “student approved”; meaning menus are based on their preferences.  Meals include fresh fruits and veggies, 100% fruit juice, whole grains, lean proteins, and low-fat milk varieties!  One Colonial mom shared, “My 4-year-old made lip-smacking noises all through his lunch.  He thoroughly enjoyed it!  Thanks!”

Remember, masked parents may pick up meals for students, or students may quickly leave their zoom studies and grab and go!!!  Delivery meals provide a well-deserved break for you, parents, as well!   Let us do the work of providing a nutritious breakfast and lunch for your scholars.

Check this link  for the delivery schedule daily as it is subject to change

Citizen Finance Oversight Committee Needs You

WE are Prepping for the Safe Return to School

Operations Supervisor Ted Lambert says his staff has been extra busy lately. Social distancing signs have been placed throughout all schools, along with signage reminding students and staff about requirements to wear face masks. Other signs about the importance of washing hands and using hand sanitizers have also been placed around schools and other buildings in the District.  Lambert is expecting a new shipment of additional disinfectant wands that help custodians thoroughly sanitize classrooms, offices, and other spaces, along with new information from the EPA about disinfectants that have a quicker kill rate for the Coronavirus.

WE Must Always Practice Safety

We will continue to share videos with important tips as long as COVID-19 remains a threat to our health and safety. The following videos stress the importance of handwashing. The first is in English, the second is in Spanish.
