Franklin rolls past Centennial for region victory
By Joe Williams • Sports Writer

FRANKLIN – Any doubts that 2020 has been the strangest year in memory, or that the full moon hanging over Howard Gamble Stadium Friday night was an omen for the annual Battle of Franklin between Franklin High School and cross-town rival Centennial were erased early in the third quarter of the Admirals 41-20 victory.

Franklin head coach Donnie Webb called for a fake punt.

Leading 27-13 and facing a Cougar squad that came out of the halftime locker room determined and motivated, Franklin faced 4th-and-23 from their own 33-yard line. Having already had one punt blocked, punter A.J. Elliot calmly lofted a pass to Blake Erby in the right flat. Erby ran through and around defenders, being stopped 25 yards later at the Centennial 42.

Brentwood comes up empty against top-ranked Oakland
By David Dawson Sports Writer

BRENTWOOD – For the Brentwood High School football team, Friday night’s homecoming game didn’t contain many highlights.

Still, it was far better than the alternative: Having no game at all.

The Bruins, who have endured a series of schedule changes in recent weeks, suffered a 37-0 loss to top-ranked and unbeaten Oakland in a battle of Class 6A powerhouses. The game — which was played before a massive crowd on Brentwood’s campus — wasn’t even on the schedule until about 48 hours before kickoff.
