Center Court - The Newsletter of the Orange County Clerk of Courts
Clerk Russell attends the Self Represented Litigants Network Conference.
Working to Increase Access to the Courts
A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to participate in the Self Represented Litigants Network Conference in San Francisco. The conference brings together lawyers, judges, self-help service professionals and others from around the country with the goal of developing successful strategies for increasing access to the courts.
I was joined at the conference by a few of my fellow Florida Clerks who, like me, are passionate about increasing access to the courts for everyone. And we are not alone. According to the Self Represented Litigant Network, some 60 percent of today’s Civil cases involve at least one self-represented party. This trend is changing how we serve many of the customers who come through our doors. Our Self Help Center is one way we are shifting to meet that need.

Celebrate Sunshine Week by Attending Our Legal Matters Forum on Public Records
Sunshine Week kicks off this week, beginning Sunday, March 12th. As part of this observance, we are hosting a Legal Matters Forum. The topic for the March 9th forum is Public Records: What’s Confidential & What’s Not. The presentation will focus on confidentiality laws around court records, the Clerk's role in making court information available to the public and how to search court records using the my eClerk website.
This forum is a perfect match for Sunshine Week, since the observance works to educate citizens about the duties and responsibilities of government agencies as it relates to public information.  As the keeper of court records for Orange County, Sunshine Week is an important because it provides an opportunity for our office to demonstrate our ability to manage court records efficiently and provide access to the public.

#HelpSpreadTheWord
And now for something completely different. As you can see from the updates in Center Court, we have a lot of information to share about the services we provide. In an effort to help “spread the word” about what we do, I gathered a few friends and we put together a quick video.
I hope you enjoy the video. More importantly, I hope you #HelpSpreadTheWord.

March Star Performer
March Star Performer
Congratulations to deputy clerk Toya Lindquist for being selected as the Clerk’s March Star Performer. Toya is a member of our Traffic team and is a consummate collaborator, helping new employees seamlessly integrate into their new roles.
“Over the past two months I have watched Toya demonstrate what a model employee looks like,” said a team member in her nomination of Toya. “From my first day in the Traffic Division, Toya showed exemplary teamwork skills. She prioritized our time, set a realistic timeline for my development and created helpful study guides that I could reference to when needed.”
