Community Service Day in Honor of Our Founders
On May 3, teams of students and faculty members spent the day off campus helping out local organizations and residents.  They cleaned along the Chickley River in Hawley, at the direction of the Connecticut River Watershed Council.  Groups helped local seniors with their spring yard clean up, in a partnership with the Shelburne Falls Senior Center.  They worked at the Buckland Recreation Area, getting the grounds ready for the season. In the Arms Library, under the direction of librarian Laurie Wheeler (Class of 1982), students dusted, washed windows, and performed a deep spring cleaning. At the Charlemont Historical Museum, a group worked on the digital cataloging of textiles in the collection, photodocumenting and entering descriptions. Yet another team cleared a new section of the Charlemont Trails with help and direction from Bruce Lessels (P14) of Zoar Outdoor. They worked on the planting beds at INSPIRE School for Autism in Brattleboro, founded by an Academy family. The day was a rewarding experience for all.

Studio Block Art at Mocha Maya's
Exciting news from Academy art classes and studio blocks: we will be holding an exhibit of student work at Mocha Maya's in Shelburne Falls  between May 26 through early July. We're very excited about this opportunity and we're trying to build support in the Academy community. Please encourage your children to submit mountable art to Mr. Green no later than May 18th. We can't guarantee that we'll display everything for the entire period, but we should be able to display most of the art on concert night, May 26. So come to the concert early, buy a coffee at Mocha Maya's, and appreciate all of the tremendous work by Academy students!
Course Selection for the 2016-2017 School Year
In the coming weeks, we will be asking students to make some choices about their courses for next year. Rising seniors will be choosing their math, science, and language courses for next year.  If you would like to discuss course selection's role in the college process, please contact Neale GayRising sophomores and juniors will be able to consider their continuation of Latin. Rising 8th graders will be selecting their language course.
