Owl Spotlight
Vanessa Alva is another wonderful senior who joined WISH as a 9th grader following our VAPA pathway. She came to WISH with two years of trumpet playing experience under her belt and has continued to flourish on that instrument as part of our Contemporary Music Ensemble. She has also started learning the guitar as part of the guitar ensemble. This is a new instrument for her and one she plans on continuing to study after graduation. In addition to being actively involved in the music program, Vanessa has also been featured in some of our theatrical performances, including the Black History Month performance in February and the upcoming Radium Girls performance. "The best thing about WISH is that I've had so many opportunities to showcase my talent and passion. The live performances have been so much fun, and I appreciate getting to play live in front of audiences."

In the Classroom
Mr. Croal has been a key member of our Math department for two years now and has quickly become one of our most popular teachers! His affability makes his Geometry and Algebra 2 classes incredibly welcoming and makes learning math easier for many scholars. His students call him "chill and relaxing," but note that his class content is still "challenging and engaging." Mr. Croal has a collection of more than 200 ties and delights his students by not repeating any ties during the school year. You will also see Mr. Croal at WISH sporting events, dances, and other social activities, and students are always happy to see him because "you can never have too much Croal time!" In addition to the sincere regard from his students, his colleagues are grateful to him, too, for being "incredibly supportive, positive, funny, and a fantastic mentor."

Good TimesLast weekend, WISH celebrated all of our successes over the last 13 years with a lovely Gala held at The Proud Bird! Several of our Academy students were there as volunteers, assisting guests and providing AV and lighting support. We also had several members of our high school Contemporary Music Ensemble in attendance, performing during the cocktail hour and providing fantastic entertainment interludes during the formal dinner. It was a fun night and a great feeling to have our students there to make our event shine even more!

Sports SuperstarsBenjamin Atlas is a sophomore at WISH Academy. He plays for the WISH Academy Soccer and Baseball teams. Ben was an integral part of the soccer team's success this past season, with a 10-5-2 record and a second-place finish in the Ocean League. Currently, as the team's shortstop and second baseman, Ben is having a great start to the baseball season. We look forward to the continued success that Ben is bound to have throughout the remainder of his high school career.

Hoots Student
"WISH is an exceptional school when it comes to being able to challenge yourself. There are always new opportunities around the corner to grow as a person both academically and emotionally. WAHS offers a variety of leadership opportunities through ASB (student council), our 9th grade outreach program LINK, the student led Yearbook, and tons of other awesome clubs and sports. But what if some club doesn’t exist yet? No problem - start it yourself! WISH encourages its students to become self-made leaders and are incredibly supportive in helping students create what they want to participate in. Beyond extracurricular activities, WAHS also boasts an awesome lineup of challenging academic classes. Like all high schools, WISH offers APs, but they also offer honors courses. These are less rigorous than APs, but still provide a fun challenge to help students expand their knowledge beyond the regular class and achieve a higher GPA to be competative for colleges. Even in on-level classes, there are a variety of fun assignments that challenge students to think outside-the-box and design creative solutions to practical problems the world faces today. It really feels as if the content that is being learned is engaging because you can understand why it is important, rather than just learning the math and taking the test before never coming back to it."
--Gabriel Koppula, 11th Grade WAHS student
Family
I am really happy with everything at WISH. The boys are doing really well in school. It is comforting to know that they are supported there becuase when you drop them off and go to work you just have to let them do it and they are doing really well! - Rosalina G., Parent of Aaron , 10th Grade (and Pablo, 6th)
Faculty and Staff
The best thing about WISH Academy is the students! They're bright, witty, and so cool. The students and helping them achieve their dreams are definitely the "why" that keeps me centered and motivated each day! I'm all in for them!
