It is officially spring in St. Louis, so as I look outside while drafting this note, I am reminded of growth and renewal after the darkness and chill of winter. We now have sunshine for more hours in the day, the grass and flowers are starting to peek their way through the soil, and trees have buds starting to bloom.
This state of renewal is not unfamiliar to us in public health - especially in times when our communities need us and our support the most. I am encouraged each day by my colleagues who continue to spark change, am inspired by the drive and curiosity of the students and young adults I have the honor to mentor through our grants, and am comforted by my loved ones who remind me of the certainty of changing seasons.
I want to thank you for your ongoing support of our work at the Light Institute and for everything each of you do to act as a light sparking growth. Every challenge we face is an invitation to grow, learn, and contribute to the betterment of our communities and I know that together, we have the potential not only to navigate the uncertainties of today but to create a stronger, healthier, more just, and brighter tomorrow.

Event recap: Rapid Qualitative Analysis training |
On March 7, 2025, the 4 Communities By Communities (4CBYC) team facilitated a Rapid Qualitative Analysis Training session preparing developing researchers to effectively analyze qualitative data from various sources (e.g. interviews, focus group discussions, and surveys) to rapidly uncover key insights in data.
During the session, the 48 participants learned from experts specific techniques to quickly identify patterns and themes within qualitative data, participated in real-time qualitative data coding and analysis examples, and practiced structuring and reporting qualitative findings, all to empower them to make data-informed decisions, draw actionable conclusions, and contribute confidently to qualitative papers for publication.
The 4CBYC team is grateful for all of those who attended and excited to support the participants moving forward in their qualitative data analysis work.
