Water District’s Water and Sewer Rates Will Remain Unchanged in 2018

The Ken-Caryl Ranch Water and Sanitation District Board of Directors adopted its 2018 budget on Dec. 20, and that budget maintains water and sewer rates at their current level. Denver Water, which supplies 100 percent of the KCR Water District’s water, raised its rates 3 percent in 2018. The Water District is able to absorb Denver Water’s increase and hold rates unchanged by being fiscally sound, including managing its reserves appropriately to fund capital expenditures. Please visit the Water District’s website at www.ken-carylwater.org to see the 2018 water and sewer rates.

Trail Closures in Muddy Conditions

Community leaders have directed the Ranger Staff to develop a trail closure policy for times when trails are muddy enough to cause damage to the trail tread. The Ranger staff will evaluate and close trails when they are determined to be too muddy for sustainable use. Please see the Trail Closures article for details about this new policy.

Christmas Tree Chipping at Brannon Gearhart Park Through Jan. 21

The Parks Department is accepting Christmas trees for chipping at Brannon Gearhart Park. Trees CANNOT be dropped off at Dakota Lodge. Brannon Gearhart Park is located just east of Valley Parkway between Mahonia and Buckthorn. Simply drop off your tree in the designated area anytime between now and Jan. 21. Be sure to remove any non-coniferous items such as metallic materials and tinsel before bringing your trees because many materials can damage the chipping equipment. The mulch will be applied at the base of trees and shrubs in parks and greenbelts.
