Volunteer Spotlight: Robbie Monsma
Our July volunteer of the month is Robbie Monsma!
Robbie and her husband Durham joined CMC as soon as they retired back to Colorado in 2013. They immediately enrolled in Wilderness Trekking School and began hiking with a great group of members who taught them about the mountains and made them feel welcome. That inspired them to become trip leaders, to help found Bobcats Section, and eventually to serve in various Denver Group leadership roles. Robbie has enjoyed many CMC Schools and is a D Hiker. She joined Denver Group Council in 2015, eventually Co-Chairing 2019-2020. While on Council she and others became concerned about low new member retention rates. Working with many other CMC members, mentors and staff and through the Member Initiative Committee, over time this has led to establishment of New Member Hikes, Ascending Hikes, Day Hiker School, Beginner Snowshoe School, Quick Start School, and several other “welcome” projects. Outside of CMC, Robbie is a retired lawyer/mediator, nonprofit entrepreneur, lay minister, and used/collectible book dealer. Robbie and Durham have visited and often hiked in about 70 countries. They have three children and two grandchildren, all of whom they are trying to lure back to Colorado.
We want to extend our deepest gratitude for all Robbie has done and continues to do for the Club! You rock Robbiel!
